Hi I found some information that may be of interest to you. My name is Amos and I am a Shirreff living in Brisbane Australia. I have never known much about my family history. I have always been told there is a Jamaican connection and I think I may have found it. John shirreff is mentioned to have moved from Glasgow to Jamaica this is mentioned in
the hidden life, a memoir of mrs shirreff (Mary)
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=g0kBAAAAQAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=shirreff+jamaica&source=bl&ots=4-FZhi76vt&sig=S-EGWJN0ZPm8S2VDX2sbLlcIbAM&hl=en&ei=PYz3TI7MDoqycYCF8KAH&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=8&ved=0CDEQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=jamaica&f=false.
Clifford Shirreff was reportedly born jamaica 1830
to father Clifford shirreff Sr and mother Mary Anne Burnett. http://records.ancestry.com/Default.aspx?pid=155238202&gss=seo

Hi Rainybell
Been doing some research on the Shirreffs from Jamaica and have gathered a lot of information. I can't however find Francis William Shirreff son of Clifford Shirreff and Mary Ann Cole, or for that matter his marriage to Mary Ann Rooney. I have their son Frank b c1863 Landborough and d 1917 Traralgon who I'm assuming could be the same person but still can't find the Shirreff - Rooney marriage :(
Could you fill me in please on the relevent details.
Cheers
Bob

Hi Rainybell
Clifford Shirreff arrived in South Australia on 14th Sept 1848 with his brother John Ives Shirreff on the ship Royal George from London via Plymouth. He married Mary Ann Cole on 19th Jan 1853 at Trinity Church Adelaide, Mary Ann was widow Campbell when she married with her maiden name being Cole. Mary Ann arrived in Adelaide on the ship Constance from London via Plymouth on 5 Nov 1849. Clifford was born c1831 in Jamaica and baptised on 21 Aug 1831 in the parish of St Mary, County of Middlesex, Jamaica along with his sister Jane Ann.
I have the baptism document and also a slave owners document for his mother Mary Ann Burnett. I suspect that Clifford's parents Clifford and Mary Ann Burnett were never married.
If you would like copies of the documents I have please send me a PM with your email address.
Cheers

Hi Debbie
I assume you have read the rest of the message thread. You will see messages from 'rainybell' who is most likely related to you. For a number of months we had a fruitful email correspondence with the lady but I can't remember her first name only her surname Shaw and she lives in Moe I think (senior moment). I am away at the moment and using an iPad so I don't have my email records. I will look her up at the weekend when I get home. Also if you are on Ancestry you could do a search of 'Public Member Trees' for Clifford Shirreff and look for a hit in our UREN/CAMPBELL tree and you will see all we have on the Shirreff family.
Hope to hear from you soon
Bob
