Hi,

The 1901 census should be available in your local family history centre to search on microfilm. it is also in the national archives in Dublin. They are starting a project to transcribe and mae the 1901 census available online within the next year or so, possibly or free so if you can wait...

Hello William,

You can search the 1901 Census for the Parish of Dunsfort and the townland of Dunsfort yourself for free. You can find it on the Lecale Historical Society website at http://www.lecalehistory.co.uk. Click on 'Historical Resources' and then 1901 Census etc.   The whole of Lecale is free online at this site. There are also maps showing the parishes and townlands that the Barony of 'Lecale' covers. It includes Downpatrick, Dundrum , Strangford etc.. Good luck in your searches.

Billy.

William,
I know that you have received offers to support you with your research, and i to an happy to do so.
I must comment that the source of data is fantastic , so well done Lecale Man.

I have had a quick look, and cannot connect to a Malcolm so would suggest that may not be his given name? Depending which 'foot' your family kick with, it it possible that he has a different name.

I would challenge the year of marriage, as i have traced a marriage that matches Malcolom & Bridget -
Name: Bridget Savage
Registration district: Downpatrick
Record type: MARRIAGES
Registration date - quarter and year: Oct - Dec 1894
Film number: 101257
Volume: 1
Page: 687

Name: Malcolom Smyth
Registration district: Downpatrick
Record type: MARRIAGES
Registration date - quarter and year: Oct - Dec 1894
Volume: 1
Page: 687
Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958

There is a Rosina Smyth, whom, if one accepts that the above dates, rather than 1896, then being 8 is a closer (not perfect) match

Name /Surname R'ship to Head  Religion Read Write Age     Gender    Where born
Rosina Smyth      Daughter      RC          R & W    8         F             Co. Down

The father of Rosina is James! This may trigger something for you, or just a coincidence.
I'll keep digging

William
I am being a little too trigger happy, sorry - You are correct that Rosina was born 1896:
Name: Rosina Margaret Smith  NB Recorded as Smith not SMYTH - Could be transcriber error?
Registration district: Downpatrick
Record type: BIRTHS
Registration date - quarter and year: Jan - Mar 1896
Volume: 1
Page: 535
Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958

Have you looked at the UK Census?

It is not an error that Rosina Margaret Smith is recorded as Smith.  Her father Malcom Smith was born in Campbeltown, Scotland and thus a Smith, not Smyth originally.  The name changed into Smyth when he married Bridget Savage in Co Down!

I am researching the same family and would welcome any information
