Catherine Violet Mackison seems to have been the daughter of Francis Mackison and Margaret Glover.

In the 1881 census they were at Ville de Lancaster, parish of Logie, Perthshire (this is possibly in or near Bridge of Allan but when the LDS transcribed the 1881 census they left out all the town and village names).

There are Francis Mackison, aged 59, civil engineer and architect, born Kilmadock, Perthshire, wife Margaret, 47, born Penninghame, Wigtownshire, and daughters Margaret de L Mackison, 13, and Violet C C Mackison, 11. Both daughters born in Stirling.

Francis and Margaret were married in 1866 in St Ninians, Stirling.

Go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and buy a copy of the marriage certificate. It should tell you the names of all Catherine Violet's grandparents.

Hi

Francis Mackison and Margaret Glover were actually married in Kensington, London. Margaret was Francis's second wife; his first one died in 1857, leaving him with a 3 month old daughter. He had three girls altogether.

A wee bit of further information on Francis Mackison's first wife . . . .

The following is the MI from a stone in Marr Cemetery in Stirling (beside the Castle and the Kirk of the Holy Rude) and reads:

In memory of JESSIE McLACHLAN wife of Francis Mackison, C.E.
Born 9th July 1827, died 10th August 1857
The first interred in this cemetery
Also of her father DANIEL McLACHLAN, Merchant, Stirling who died 28th April 1871 aged 77
Also in memory of MARY MILLER MACKISON widow of Robert John Shaw
And daughter of Francis Mackison, C.E. and Jessie McLachlan
Born 12th May 1857, died 22nd January 1941

I don't know whether the line "First interred in this cemetery" means the first burial or the first of the family buried in the cemetery.

If anyone wants copies of the photos of the stone, PM me with your personal e-mail address.

Anne

Jessie Mackison's was thought to have been the first burial in the new part of the Old Town Cemetery when it was opened in 1857 and her headstone was the  the first stone to have been erected. It was designed by her husband in the form of the Greek letter 'A'.
