Could you please lookup:
Margaret Hixon
Born: 22nd October 1866 (?), Sunderland
I'm especially keen to know about her parents. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Could you tell me where your info came from? She's proving a bit hard to find.
There's a birth entry on FreeBMD for Sunderland Jun Quarter 1867 10a 507 for a Margaret Ann Hixon, if that's her you could send for her birth cert.
On the 1871 census there's a Margaret Hixon with grandparents in Killingworth, but looking at the scan it could easily be Nixon. There's another family in 1871 with a Margaret Nixon age 4 with parents Robson & Sarah but she was born in Houghton le Spring... ancestry.com has indexed these as both Hixon and Nixon in 1871 & 1881......

Hi Barbara,
Many thanks for getting back to me.
It’s not certain that Margaret is the sister of Jane Gordon Hixon (from whom I’m descended), but I came to the conclusion through a coincidence of surnames and occupations. In the Poor Law Records for Glasgow, I found the following:
JOHN FORRESTERS WIFE MARGT. HIXON.
Date of visit: 23/10/88.
Born Sunderland, England. Age 22. Married. Housewife. Protestant.
Parentage - Matthew Hixon, Bottle Blower in(?) Dublin Ireland and Ann Ruth Hughes deceased.
It’s Margaret’s / Jane’s parentage I’m most interested in. Note Margaret’s parents are noted as Matthew Hixon and Ann Ruth Hughes. Well, Jane Gordon Hixon’s parents are noted on her BMD certificates as:
Birth certificate
Matthew Hixon (Bottle Blower Journeyman)
Ruth Hixon (M.S. Thent(?))
Date/place of parents' marriage: 8th June 1858, Sunderland, England.
Marriage certificate
Bride's father: Matthew Hixon, Bottle Blower
Bride's mother: Ruth Hixon (M.S. Frew(?))
Death certificate
Father: Matthew Hixon, Bottle Blower (deceased).
Mother: Ruth Hixon (M.S. Thew(?)) (deceased).
So you can see the quite strong linkage with names and occupations. Both Jane and Margaret have a father ‘Matthew Hixon’ who is a bottle blower; the mother’s forename is invariably ‘Ruth’, with her surname rhyming with ‘Hughes’ (generally illegible), and both Jane and Margaret have connection with Sunderland.
Jane’s parents are also recorded as being married in 8th June 1858, Sunderland. Margaret was born around 1866, and Jane in Glasgow in 1876, so those dates are compatible. (Of course, this means that the marriage certificate for the parents might be sought, but this is difficult owing to the confusion over the surname of Ruth “Hughes”).
It’s due to the fact I have little information from Jane’s certificates about her parents that I was hoping to see if I could glean anything from Margaret’s certificates.
Thanks,
Stephen
