Try the Teesside Archives office in Middlesbrough.     They are actually in Marton Road so they should know!
I have ancestors who went there much earlier but have a feeling it is no longer there.

If you mean the Primary School, I think the building is still there but used for something else. The children have since transferred to Abingdon Road school.

My Mum taught at Marton Road Infants in the 1960s. Too late to be of use to you I'm afraid.

Marton Road is a VERY long road from Middlesbrough town centre right out to the outskirts.

Thanks for the reply. I will ask at the new school if they have transferred the records.

You'd best start at the Archives I think - i don't think the new school would have space for all those records. I'm sure you can e-mail and check first though.

Hi Keziah,
I know the school has been knocked down.  I'm now on an interesting website called  enquire  http://www.peoplesnetwork.gov.uk  asking where the records are held, you can chat online to a librarian (unfortunately it's not to a Middlesbrough one at the moment), and they couldn't help straight away, but will follow up and email me back in a day or two.  If you can't wait that long I'll phone Mbro ref library tomorrow & ask them.  Can you tell me which records you're after, I told them it was the pupils you wanted to know about?

Hi Barbara
Thanks for your reply.
I have been in touch with the Archives and they do not hold the records. So I have come to a brick wall regarding them.
Many thanks once again

Hi Keziah,

this is the reply I got from the peoplesnetwork site:

Your query has been passed on to Middlesbrough Libraries as it required specialist local knowledge. I can tell you that the records for the school do still exisit and are held at Teesside Archives. They cover the years 1898-1939 only according to our information but it may be that a further deposit has since been made. You should contact Teesside Archives direct for a fuller description of records held, either by emailing teesside_archivesATmiddlesbrough.gov.uk or by telephone 01642 248321 or write to Teesside Archives,
Exchange House, 6 Marton Road, Middlesbrough TS1 1DB.

So, I'll leave it to you to try the archives again.  If this Brian Jackson is still alive, have you tried 192.com or electoral rolls?

This is quite an old post and perhaps you are sorted on this now. Perhaps you found the Friends Reunited section for this school by now, and other historical sources.
I case you didn't , I was a pupil in the infants section of the school in the period in question, and offer a few tips.
The sitel had an Infant, Junior and Senior School which were all managed under separate heads in separate buildings (The Senior School occupied the upper floor from the Junior). Many went on to schools other than  the Senior school.  The buildings were demolished only a few years ago, but for 20-30 years or so had been used as municpal premises and storage.  They are still building housing on this site.
The successor school was in effect Breckon Hill Primary School or perhaps Abingdon Road school.  I am suprised no records were passed on to the Cleveland Archives Department.  From 1974 to about 1996 education was under the Cleveland County Council.
Every school headteacher had a log book, a sort of Headteachers's diary.  Some of these were passed on to successor schools. Worth a try.Just to get the location fixed in your mind, it was quite central, on the south east corner of Borough Road and Marton Road, bounded by Douglas Street.  At this time of writing, you can see the empty site on Bing and new  building in progress on Google Maps . Get Mapping has an aerial view of the old Senior/Junior Building taken before demolition.

PS By the way, Middlesbrough is not in Durham.  First in Yorkshire, then Cleveland as I noted.  During the 20th century it handled its own schools , except during the Cleveland period.  It is now a "Unitary" Borough in the loose federation known as Tees Valley.
