Title: Bradshaw a very old family
Post by: YukonHall on Thursday 19 January 06 04:55 GMT (UK)
Where can I find a photograph of the old Bradshaw House, I think it was called Darby Old Hall - pulled down in the 19th century but it was photographed.

Also anyone else related to the Bradshaws?  This family goes way back to Saxon times - I need more information since I can't get to the archives in Bolton until Spring (stuck in the Yukon till then) and there seems little on the net.

Bradshaw was once a Village just outside of Bolton.  Now it is part of Turton well within Bolton.  I found a link to Turton and they seem to have booklets with some of the history - avaialble to buy but not over the net.  I wrote to Hall'ith Wood too about another part of my family the Norris's who once own the hall and they sent me a postcard of Bradshaw Hall yesterday.  It looks like a touched up Victorian photograph, made to look like a painting.  Also found a reference that Bradshaw was aligned with Harwood.  I am having a Geography lesson alongside my history.  Lots of bits of information available and some are conflicting.

I think I got the Darby Old Hall reference from the Bolton Evening News Archives - I need to chase it up again since I can't find it in my notes now.  Now I have several references to the house as Bradshaw Hall.  It was demolished in Victorian times.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Sarah,
found the reference, seems there were two halls, Bradshaw Hall and Darcy Lever Old Hall, both belonging to the Bradshaw families.  Both were photographed and later demolished during Victorian times.  I was reading Simon Topliss articles in the Bolton Evening News online and he did some nice overviews of Bolton in history.  So I am looking for the Darcy Lever Old Hall.

Also there must be a lot of people related to the Bradshaws out there, wouldn't mind swopping facts and stuff with them.  Also the Norris family who once own Hall'ith Wood.  It's a small world or used to be.
