This is a challenge I know. But its always worth a shot !!!
My 4X Great Grandfather, HENRY SCHOFIELD was a Potter in Hunslet. Born in Hunslet about 1800.
He had a daughter named SARAH ANN SCHOFIELD in 1827.
In July 1844, Sarah Ann had a son EDWARD SCHOFIELD, my Great Great Grandfather.
I would very much like to know who the father of EDWARD SCHOFIELD was.
Thank you very much.

Here are the family in 1851
H0107/2318/202/44

Henry Schofield head age 50 born Hunslet
Harriet wife age 45 born Thornhill
Harriet dau age 21 born Hunslet
Eliza Emmott stepdau age 21 born Thornhill employed pottery
Edward Schofield age 6 grandson born Hunslet.
No sign of who the father is, suggest you look for and buy the birth certificate to see if the fathers name is on there. :)

Just for reference, you probably have this from IGI
SARAH ANN SCHOFIELD
Birth 06/06/1827
Christening 03/07/1827 Wesleyan Methodist, Hunslet
Father Henry Schofield
Mother Harriet
Paul

Yes, I know that Paul.
But thank you very much all the same.
I think it is going to be very difficult to find who the father of her child Edward is !
I guess the only chance is trawling through parish records sometime. The father may have been ordered to pay some support for his son if they were unmarried.
Thanks again.

Re St. Marys Hunslet - SCHOFIELD (1851 Census)
EDWARD SCHOFIELD (6) must have been the son of HENRY SCHOFIELDS 2nd wife (HARRIET EMMOTT).
He married again after his 1st wife died in 1835 (i.e HARRIET BOOTH).
I am also a descendant 4x Grandfather of Henry Schofield. I hope this answers the original query - some time ago- from Tom Faggus
-
Would this be the same Sarah Schofield who married John Ingham Hunslet Mar Q 1851 and later Thomas Marsden Hunslet Dec Q 1860?
This could explain why Edward was with his grandparents on census night. :)
I have just reached this point in researching a friend's tree and she has yet to order the certificates which might confirm this. Sarah would be her 3G GM.
Cheers, Jane

Hi Tom Here
We are related then but no, Edward was Henry's Grandson. Son of his daughter Sarah Ann.

Hi Tom
Thanks for that. A lesson learned - never assume anything in research!
My G Grandfather also married Henry's daughter - Harriet.
