Title: Caesars
Post by: mimmyt on Tuesday 17 January 06 08:08 GMT (UK)
Looking for anything on the Caesar family from Surrey.  Especially a Frederick Caesar who went to Australia in the later 1800's.  Thanks

Hi Mimmyt

You will need to be a bit more specific!

There are more CAESARs than you might think in Surrey.  There is a Frederick b 1867 that just might be yours?  Have you got some dates, family names, locations?  What information would you like to find?

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

I believe my Frederick was born before 1850.  I am mainly after his marriage.  He supposedly came out to Australia with his wife Elizabeth, but can find no record of his marriage in England. She died in Australia.

Do you have census info then?

There is a Fred born Farncombe 1850, parents Julius (!) and Jane.

I believe he was born in either Whitley or Guildford, not sure, and his birthdate was before 1850.
Thanks for your help

How about this one?

1851 census  HO107/1594/54/4

CASAR Stephen H M 56 - farmer 100 acres, 3 labourers - Surrey Poppenharrow
Jemima W M 50 - Surrey Witley
George son U 22 - farmer son - Seal
Emma dau U 20 - do dau - Elstead
Henry son 16? - do son - Witley
Frederick son 14 - do - do
Mary Elizabeth day 13 - do dau - do
Robert Step'n son 11 - do son - Surrey Addleston
Chas Ed son 6 - Woking

Address: Mayford, Woking, Surrey

There are 3 others, but this is the only one b in one of the places you suggest.

1836 born Wotton - servant in 1851
1828 b Godalming - ditto
1833 b Lambeth - with family in Lambeth

Each of the above has a variation on the spelling!

Thanks   ;D

Have you looked at

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl  ?

It is not a complete record, however, so you might need to try a payable site such as 1837online which has all records.

Do you have Elizabeth's maiden name?  One of their children's birth cert would give you that, if born in the UK - not sure about elsewhere.  Once you have that is easier to trace the correct marriage.

You need to trust me with a bit more information to get results! LOL  :)

Elizabeths surname is supposed to be Albert, and her father Henry Albert, but it is doubtful that was his real name, as he was a convict and I can find no record of his marriage or birth.  I was hoping that if I could find a record of her and Fredericks marriage it might state her real surname if Albert is a false one.

thanks ???

Morning Mimmyt  :)

If you are unsure of Elizabeth's maiden name, one way might be to locate the birth of one of her children and order a birth cert.

When was their first child born and where?  That might help locate the marriage.

Sorry, I think I am repeating myself, but it is early for me

Elizabeth's surname was Allbutt. Marriage GRO reference Chelsea/1860/Dec/1a/233.

I would be interested in any further information on Frederick since I am related to this branch of the Caesar via Frederick's sister Harriett.
