Title: for derbs- Tutt marriages in Arlington
Post by: forester on Sunday 15 January 06 21:10 GMT (UK)
Hello Kim,

In answer to your PM, here is some information on Richard Tutt and others, gleaned from the Sussex Marriage Index.

The SMI has a great number of Tutt marriages in East Sussex, there being 18 for Richard Tutts alone. The Tutt surname seems to be almost exclusive to the East part of the county, starting in the north at Hailsham, down through Willingdon to Eastbourne. Along the coast it seems to spread from Brighton up to Hastings and Rye. Without counting them, I would say that the marriages are most numerous in Willingdon and Eastbourne.

The one you were looking for is:

Arlington    11 Feb 1762
Richard Tutt
Mary Fears
botp    by Banns

The earliest Arlington one I can find is:

Arlington   28 Nov 1667
John Tutt
Jane Denale

-also shown as John Tutt to Jane Deval on the same day.

The other Arlington ones, either involving a Richard, or previous to 1762 are:

Arlington    11 Nov 1756
Mary Tutt, widow, Hailsham
Thomas Plumley, otp
By licence (licence is not on the SMI)

Arlington    9 July 1796
Richard Tutt
Elizabeth Wood
botp, by Banns

Arlington   8 Sept 1819
Richard Tutt
Martha Walker Body
botp, by Banns

There are a number of Arlington marriages in the 1790's, 1820's and 1830's; if you want them , let me know.

There is a Sussex OPC for Willingdon, who access to the parish registers.    www.sussex-opc.org (http://www.sussex-opc.org)

Hope this helps

Regards,
Phil

Hi
I am interested in the Tutt family - ours came from Chailey then previously Warbleton - the last Tutt with the surname was Stephen Tutt b. 1728 Warbleton d. Chailey 1803, married Elizabeth Apps at Withyham  1752. Their only son Stepehen died as a baby but several of the daughters (married Hodd, Turner, Grantham, Markwick, Trill and Howe) kept the name Tutt as a middle name - and they have also left a lot of descendants interested in family history as well.

regards
Carole

There must be a connection as Chailey is very near.  This may be of help.

Hi Siamese Girl  - have also sent you a PM

I was looking at past forums and came across this topic.  I too have TUTT & HODD in my family and just wondered in there was a connection.  Barbara Tutt ch 12 Jan 1768 Chailey married Richard Hodd who was a farmer/innkeeper.  They married in Nov 1794 in Chailey.  I'm descended from their marriage.

It would be good to hear from you if there is connection between our families.
