Hi, I am trying to trace Thomas Wrights' parents, Thomas was born about 1809/10 in Kendal. I have that info off the 187l census where he is living in Oldham, Lancs at that time.
His wife is Sarah - I cannot find a record of their marriage in
Kendal or Crossthwaite (where Sarah was born) she had 2 children born in Cockermouth, Cumberland, I cannot find a record of their marriage there either. So if anyone can help at all I would be very, very grateful.
Cheers,
Josie

Hi, thanks for replying so soon. I've got RG10/4094/14 page 21, is that any help? Mary Jane and Ann are down as his daughters, but that's not quite true. I'm beginning to think that Sarah just took his name and that they didn't marry!!!

Hi Sue,
Thanks for your reply, it sounds about right because Thomas was a lot older than Sarah and I wondered if he had been married before. I can't find a record of Thomas & Sarahs wedding - I'll keep plodding on!
Thanks for your help Sue, its much appreciated.
Cheers, Josie

I have been researching Thomas Wright's family for sometime and have many details.
Thomas was born 18 Jan 1809 at Patton Folds Farm, Selside, near Kendal on18 Jan 1809. His parents were John and Elizabeth Wright. Elizabeth died at Netherhouse Farm, Longsleddale in 1836 and John at Kentmere, Westmorland in 1852.
I am interested in to know if you have found any details (where and when) of his second marriage to Sarah Fletcher.
Thomas in my g.g.g. grandfather.

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry but I am no further forward in finding a marriage record for my Sarah Fletcher to a Thomas
Wright.
I have a copy of the 1871c entry saying Thomas Wright aged 61 born Kendal living at No 1 Potters Yard, Bow St., Oldham
with wife Sarah Wright born Crossthwaite, and her daughters Mary Jane Fletcher aged 17 and Ann Fletcher aged 12 both born Cockermouth. (Ann was my g grandmother).
On the 1881c Sarah is living with her married daughter Ann and her family still in Oldham but she is a widow by then.
On the 1861c Sarah and children are in Cumberland in one of the poor houses.
I have tried Kendal, Cockermouth and Oldham areas for a marriage record (on BMD) but nothing for a TW to SF.

Just in case anyone didn't know, there are two Crosthwaites in what is now Cumbria. There is one about 6miles west of Kendal in what was Westmorland and the other is Crosthwaite, Keswick in Cumberland which was the parish for Keswick and a large surrounding area. The Keswick Crosthwaite would seem to be a useful place to look for Sarah as it is only 13 miles from Cockermouth.
