Hi. I wonder if someone might be able to help me trace my 2nd great grand uncle, William Lock. He was born in Newington in 1849 to John & Maria Lock (nee Payne). The family were living at 8 Graham Street during the 1851 census, but moved back to Barnstaple (where John came from) a couple of years later.
From my research, I have found out that William was in boarding school in Edmonton, Middlesex during the 1861 census, but seems to completely disappear from the records until the 1891 census, when he's registered as living at 81 Portland Street, St Marys, Newington with his wife Edith (born in 1870 in Bermondsey) and working as a painter. ??? ???
I have no idea if he was living in Barnstaple during the intervening years, or whether he stayed in and around the Newington area. if anyone has any information or ideas on where I might start then I'd be most grateful. many thanks. :)
