Title: Mathiesons in Muirkirk
Post by: hartledm on Thursday 16 September 04 22:24 BST (UK)
Hi All,
I'm interested in Mathiesons in Muirkirk from 1790-1930

My 3 x Gt Grandfather Robert Mathieson married Agnus Muir in 1814 in Muirkirk. He'd come from Auchinlech and after they married they had 7 children the last being born in 1830.
By 1841 Agnes was a widow and had reverted to her maiden name. I've looked for the death of Robert in the Parish records and OPR's assuming that he died between 1830 and 1841 but nothing has been found.

Does anyone have a suggestion what other records I could check.

Thanks,
Dave

Hiya hartledm,

A warm welcome to Rootschat.

I did a wee bit of googling and found this...

http://fp.ayrshireroots.plus.com/Genealogy/Records/Archives/Archives.htm#The Baird Institute

The Baird Institute seem to have an interest in Muirkirk burials - they may hold information?  They could at least tell you if any transcription projects have focussed on the cemetery.

All the best,
Pam

Hi Dave,

Very Interesting.   I too am descended from  Robert Mathieson and Agnes Muir, and have had difficulty finding the death record of Robert...and noticed that he was absent from the 1841 census of Muirkirk...

I have done quite a bit of research on this family and connected families.

Regards,
Phyllis

Hello hartledm and Phyllis.  I've recently started looking into my husband's line and he too is descended from Robert Mathieson and Agnes Muir, their son Robert.
Did either of you find a death date for Robert before 1841?
I realise you were on this topic a couple of years ago!

Hello!

I too am a descendent of Robert Mathieson and Agnes Muir from Muirkirk.  I would love to hear from anyone who is also connected to this line.

Hello, Neil.  How are you connected?  I haven't been following this line for a couple of years now, but happy to share info with you.

Hello!  Good to hear from you.  I am connected to Robert and Agnes via their daughter Isabella.  I am more than happy to share information with you.  I'm not really sure the best way to go about this.  How do I send an email to you?  I have information about Isabella and her descendents if you are interested.  Please excuse my ignorance, but I am not really familiar with how rootschat works.

I look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Kind regards,

Neil

Does anyone know if any Muirkirk Mathiesons wandered the twenty miles or so to the Kilmarnock area. I'm interested in in WILLIAM MATHIESON (wool spinner) who married a MARION IRVINE in Kilmarnock in 1825 and had a daughter MARY MATHIESON sometime between 1830-33.
