Hi rokerman, I have just started searching for my grandson's other grandmother's family of Coates. Any info you have would be brilliant!
She was Margaret Jessie Coates born 13 July 1935 in Birmingham, parents John Henry Coates & Maud Beatrice Bonell.
John Henry & Maud Beatrice married 10 Feb 1923 at St Andrews Church, Bordesley, Birmingham.
John Henry was born around 1902 in Birmingham, parents John Henry Coates & Emily (Dugmore?) No cert yet. Siblings could be Dorothy, Arthur Edward & Minnie.
There is a marriage for John Henry & Emily Jane Dugmore Dec quarter 1892 in Birmingham that looks promising, but I haven't got cert yet.
Many thanks for your offer. Regards, TonyR.

Looking for the following Coates people.
Frances Coates, who married Edward James Knightley at St Marys, Lambeth, Surrey on 19/01/1873. I think her father was John Coates who died on March 15th, 1897. He was interred at Bath Cemetery. I would like to find out more about Frances family who it is believed, came from Lewes, Sussex.
I would also like to find out about her father in law, James Agleston Knightley.
Like John Coates, he too was deceased at the time of the marriage.
Frances has a son, Alfred Knightley, whose descendants now live in Canada.

Hi Jon
Sorry I cannot help with the Coates family of Cockfield County Durham. My late father in law (Coates) came up from London to Thornaby with the RAF in the 1940's married and stayed on in Yorkshire . The remainder of his family are still around London.

Rokerman, I have a couple of pages on the family of Edward Coates (1843-1905) who was born at Eyton House near Leominster, emigrated to NZ, and was the father of Gordon Coates, the first NZ-born prime minister of NZ. Any use to you?
You could also try seeing what Sandy Culver has put on the Wikitree web site.

...... Gordon Coates, the first NZ-born prime minister of NZ. Any use to you?
I had understood that Francis Henry Dillon BELL was born Nelson, New Zealand. I had understood he became Prime Minister of New Zealand immediately before Gordon COATES.
NZ BDM online birth registration numbers
1851/2481 likely applies for Francis BELL
1878/162 likely applies for Gordon COATES
