Title: NIVEN - OWENS
Post by: CANBANKIE on Wednesday 11 January 06 22:51 GMT (UK)
My gr.gr.grandparents James NEVIN and Catherine OWENS were born in DERRY about 1827.
This info from the 1881 census of Glasgow Scotland.

Their daughter Mary Ann NEVIN was "Born at Sea" in 1852,but she was Baptised in Londonderry also in 1852.
How can I find her baptismal record ?
I need this info in order to continue my research in Ireland.

Thanks
Frank McGonigal Ont.Canada.

hello frank, saw your message, as i am from derry i thought i might be able to put you on the right path.the first thing you need to establish is wether she was catholic or protestant, very important when looking for bapismal records.if she was catholic the chances are she was baptised in st. eugenes cathedral francis street derry.  tele:02871262894 or email steugenes[at]btconnect.com or try the long tower church parochial house 6 victoria place derry. tele:02871262301 the last one is st. columbs church 32 chapel road derry. tele:02871342303. i am giving you the catholic ones because these would have been the only three catholic churchs built in derry around that time.i would not be to sure of the protestant churchs around that time but we could find out. failing all that you could try derry genealogy centre. 10-16 pump street. derry city. co. derry n. ireland. bt486jg.(there is a fee for this service). hope this is of some help to you.

                                                   kind regards
                                                         mary.

Hi Mary
Many thanks for replying to my question.Yes they were Catholic, and I imagine that her Gallacher,Owens and McCrocken grandparents were too.
I found these names in marriage and death records in Scotland.

Your info on the churches should help a great deal,I'll get in touch with them and see if they respond ( with a little financial incentive :-).

I'll also check and see if the LDS has filmed the records, probably not but it's worth a try now that I have the church names.

Thanks again,
Frank McGonigal Ont.Canada

That's very encouraging Mary, you hear stories of people writing to Churches many times and not receiving a reply.

Thanks again,
