Sadly,its true :(
Ancestry packed it's bags and left quietly in the night, firmly locking the door as it left!
So it looks like we are going to have to shell out the hard earned if we want to get in.
Oh well,it was fun while it lasted and I'm sure that a lot of people benefited from it so we can't really complain :)
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings,
Mick ;)

I looked on the Gale Group - Database trial site provided by one of our members (in the useful sites section) and Ancestry.com which was freely accessible from that site appears to have been removed from there to!
Although you can still gain access to the times periodicals etc and much much more on the Gale site.
Regards
Bryant

Hi Bryant,
Good point! There is still a lot of great stuff to be had on the Gale site, the Times database is excellent :)
I wonder how long it will be before thats gone as well?
Best get in there quick ;D

sad ancestry free trial has ended, but i have been on it every day, great while it lasted , and i have hit it hard and got some really good info, thanks ancestry,do it again some time, nora T

Argh!! I was enjoying so much too! now i,m thinking of signing up!
-
I agree. I'm saving up my money!!! Ancestry's does have a lot of great info. :)
-
I think we've all been suckered
- they only did it so we would all get hooked, and then subscribe !
-
I finally decided to subscribe to Ancestry .co.uk
the UK arm ,just for the 1891 and 1871 census for my one name study.
I worked it out that it was cheaper than petrol and parking fees to view elsewhere.
Also I can have my tea on the hour, half hour, and in between.
I shall stay subscribed as it will take all of my time(one year) to search it site thoroughly and despite all the "bad" things I heard on other mailing lists about trying to cancel
credit cards etc I am very happy with its cost effectiveness..
Mind you it is for a One Name that I base my statement.
The amount available if one selects all the databases is massive.
Cheers Gj.

What a shame that the free trial has ended. I did find a lot of my ancestors on there but what I miss now is doing look ups for other people, which I have enjoyed immensely. It gave me great pleasure finding other people's ancestors. One such person sent me a message of thanks, referring to me as "an absolute diamond".
Makes it all worthwhile, don't you think?! ;)

We have had a wonderful time on the site - and learned a lot! - and *may* subscribe. Can someone tell me how much it is, please/
Thanks.

To subscribe costs £60 for a year,£25 a quarter or £6 for a limited number of viewings.I've started saving, because even though it's a lot of money it is a fantastic online resource, imvho ;D

Not sure how this would work from UK though - i.e working out exchange rates etc

Well done Elektra,
I did not find that, it is very useful information, it is a shame Ancestry do not make it an option to see this during the sign-up process, once you get in there it is Credit Card or nothing. ::)
