Title: Look up Mother's maiden name "Pullen"
Post by: Laura Louise on Sunday 08 January 06 04:15 GMT (UK)
I have been searching and searching for any information.  Someone recommended Rootschat and I thought I'd give it a go.  My Mother's maiden name was Pullen.  Her 2 older siblings were born in Bristol around 1885 - 1890.  My grandmother's name was Laura Elizabeth(Taylor maiden name) Pullen and she was married to Walter Pullen.  There were 2 children born in Bristol.  Rose and Lilian. Elsie, my mother Gladys Laura and her brother Frederick were born in Toronto, Ontario.  Elsie died at a young age.  I keep bumping into brick walls and if anyone out there can help, I would be very appreciative.
Sincerely,
Laura

Hi Laura,

I haven't been able to find a Walter Pullen born Bristol on the earlier censuses yet - I'm just checking a Walter Pullin out.

I've left Walter for the minute - the "Pullin" entry was incorrect.

Here is a possibility for Laura. There is one other "Laura G Taylor" born Bristol, 1878. I'll check her out too. Rose could have been named after this Rosina.

1891 Census Bristol

The other Laura is "Laura Gertrude"  and she married either Henry Brutus or George Ernst in 1901.

Here is the marriage of Laura & Walter

Hi Laura, ;D

you will need to purchase Laura & Walter's marriage certificate to verify this information. The certificate will give you their father's name and occupation.

Once you know that it's the correct families you can post again for the earlier censuses.

I've had a look at the 1871 and it's" Abraham Pulling" there too.

You can order the certificate online using the information I have given you for the marriage.

Darcy...thank you for all your time and assistance!  Walter may not have been born in Bristol.  I know that my 2 aunties were born in Bristol and I assumed that my grandmother, Laura Elizabeth was born in Bristol.  My Great-grandmother is Maryann Egan or Eagan and married Abraham Taylor.  People would call Maryann "Polly" and she was a midwife.  I believe that my great-grandfather "Abraham" was studying to become a doctor but hard times came upon them.  My mother was born in 1914 in Toronto, Ontario - Canada.  Her sisters Rose and Lilian were born in Bristol.  My Auntie Lil passed away in 2003 or 2004 at the age of 97 which would put her birth date at 1906 -1907 and I believe the oldest sister Rose was possibly 4 years older - 1902 - 1903.  Maybe this helps a little.  Please know how thankful I am for what you are doing!
Sincerely,
Laura

Hi Laura, ;D

I was working on your original dates for the two sisters - 1885-1890. If Rose & Lillian were born 1902-1907, there will not be a census record for them as 1901 is the latest census we have.

Do you think the marriage of Laura Elizabeth Taylor and Walter Wallis Pullen is incorrect?

As far as I can see there is only one couple named Walter & Laura Pullen in Gloucestershire in 1901 - that's the one I gave you with daughter Rose.

I think we had better start again. I suggest you start a new thread looking for Abraham & Mary Ann Taylor. Just give as much information as you can, no matter how trivial. The RootsChat volunteers should be able to find your family as we rarely have a failure. Sorry I messed this one up. ::)

Hi Darcy...thank you for trying.  I feel as if I am looking for a needle in a hay stack.  I've tried many-a-time and have not succeeded.  Thank you again for your help.
Sincerely,
Laura

You will find them Laura.  ;D

I was just looking at the dates again. If Rose Pullen was born "around "1902 then that could be her on the 1901 census. The mother and father's names are correct and we know that a Laura Elizabeth Taylor married a Walter Wallis Pullen in 1900.

Hi Darcy...somehow I don't think they are the ones.  My Mother was born in 1914 and her sisters were probably born 1904 ish and maybe 1890's or there abouts.  So their parents couldn't be born in 1900.  Not unless a miracle occurred.
Thank you Darcy for trying.
Sincerely,
Laure

 Hi Laura, ;D

I think you misunderstood me. ;D

The parents, Laura Elizabeth Taylor & Walter Wallis Pullen, were not born in 1900 - they were married in 1900.

I meant it could possibly be your mother's sister Rose, born in 1901, as you gave approx birth years for Rose & Lillian as 1902-1903.

The family I found must just be a coincidence.

Darcy

Darcy...I think you've got it!  You know...I just recently had a huge rooted molar extracted and my brain just hasn't been working right.  I really think you've got it.  Wow...and here I was saying, no...that couldn't be them.  Sheesh...where is my mind at.  You are amazing Darcy...I really think that must be them.  Wow...I feel like dancing a jig...
Thank you Darcy!
Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Laura Louise

Laura, ;D

I knew it was your family but I didn't want to put pressure on you.

I'm really pleased that you can now see the connection.

Now you need to take it slowly. I think you should buy the marriage cert. for Laura & Walter. I'm pretty sure that I have given you the correct parents for Walter - but I think you mentioned Laura's father was Abraham and I think I gave you a Henry there.

You need the information off the marriage certificate to verify their father's names and occupations and then we should be able to trace your family on the earlier census.

You can still post for other information while you are waiting. You will get all the help you need on RootsChat.

I'm really pleased for you Laura. ;D

Darcy
