Title: Marriage look up - Tonks, Dawley, Shrops

Hi,

I'm trying to find the marriage of Thomas Tonks abt. 1857 and probably in Dawley.  He married a Mary Ann, but I really want to know her surname.  If anyone is able to look up details of parish registers for the area, I would be very grateful.

IGI has a marriage between Thomas, son of John Tonks and Mary Ann, dau of James Harris in Dawley Magna on 24 Dec 1860.

Possible?

Thanks Rambler, that's just made things interesting.  It's got all the right ingredients to be right, Thomas' father is John and it's in the right place, but it's 2 or 3 years after their first child was born, so the first child was possibly illegitimate, more research now needed I think.

I have tried searching the GRO index on Ancestry, but this is not complete yet, and unfortunately, the one I'm looking for is not included.

Sorry Carole, I've found the index now now.  Unfortunately, I'm still no wiser.  I can't even find the Thomas who married on 24th December 1860.

The index still has some teething problems (it's still a test version), but I found Thomas Tonk's marriage by searching "Thomas To" in Dec Q 1860, which brought up a page starting with Toller, and then hitting the "next page" green arrow until I got to Tonks: the reference is Madeley 6a 1209.  Of course, still no guarantee that this is the right one!

Thanks for that Rambler, it's a great help. I think I'll send for the certificate, witnesses and the  address at the time of marriage may help me decide if it's the right one, fingers crossed!

Hi, I know that this post is an old one, however, I just noticed it. Im clutching at straws here, however, my Elizabeth Allford married a John Tonks in Shropshire, specifically Malinslee. That wedding was in 1845. My Elizabeth had a sister Mary Ann Allford, I have much more information, not yet sorted and put into my Legacy package yet, but perhaps there is a link. Would love to discuss further. Richard.
