Hi Robert,
Thanks for the info on Rebecca & family this is all correct as you see she married william whitehead in 1860. Have been unable to establish how either rebecca or william came to Aust (both in different years) or if they came on their own or had relatives in Aust.Any suggestions appreciated.
Cheers

Hi skipper,
Have you checked the online immigration indexes at www.records.nsw.gov.au? They have both unassisted and assisted immigrants indexes available for the period you're interested in.
If you have Rebecca's and/or WIlliam's death certificates, they should say how long they'd been in the colonies for, which might give you some more clues (but it just depends on who was giving the information to go on the certificate ::) )

Hi! Rosalie & Prue,
All the Whiteheads listed @ Orange Cemetery with the exception of(as far as I know) Mary Elizabeth & John are all my relations.
Possible that John could even be related to William..depending on his age ..maybe a clue :-\
I've been able to work out that Rebecca arrived in 1853 & William 1856/7 according to their death certificates.
Just found a Rebecca Graham which fits the right age arriving on the Derry Castle 22/5/1853 into Melbourne from Liverpool.
So far unable to find a passanger list except through the online Vic Govt. William has been elusive as to port of entry so far....I'll keep on digging :) & thanx for your help.
I live on an island in Moreton Bay off Brisbane
Cheers Skipper

Hi skipper,
Which island? I grew up on Bribie - a very different place today than it was then, but still I wish I was back there. Relegated to Canberra now, I'm afraid!
Hopefully some other Aussies will come online soon and point you in other directions in your hunt for William. Often the unassisted immigrants weren't listed by name, so if he came by that route you may not find him unfortunately...but there are lots more sources to tick off before you get to that stage :)
Cheers

Hello again
Sorry I missed the age at death for John ::)
He was 71yrs old
Had a deeper look at Mary Elizabeth she had Gertrude Frances Kane buried with her:
Inscription: In Memory of my dear sister and aunt Gertude Francis Kane. died 24 Jan 1943 aged 55yrs. RIP. From the children and citizens of Euabalong. (In memory of dear aunty Gertie) on vase.
Sounds like aunt Gertie was reknowned in the town.
This might help you
