This is a desparate plea for help,
I am trying to trace my Paternal Great-Grandfather Isaac Hole. I found a likely candidate in the 1901 census, listed as born in Glam. aged 17 and living in the Canton area of Cardiff.
If anyone has access to the 1891 census this could pin him down, he would be aged about 7 and presumably living with his parents.
If anyone can help I would be eternally in your debt,
Kazza.

Hi Kazza,
I searched both the UK and the Wales census for 1891 and didn't find an "Isaac Hole" in either of the right age and/or birthplace.
I even tried searching on the ages of 6 and 7 and came up with some males with the surname Hole ... but nothing to indicate, say, a second name of Isaac ... or a misspellling of that name.
With whom was he living in 1901? Perhaps that would provide a useful clue.

Thanks Mary,
I'm afraid I know nothing about who he was living with I got this info. from the 1901 online census and did'nt fancy paying a fiver for the full information.
Thanks for looking tho' :)

If your Isaac HOLE was 17 in 1901 census, and born in Cardiff as it says, then his birth certificate is probably the one with the following GRO record:
Births Jul-Sep quarter 1883
Isaac HOLE Cardiff district, vol 11a, page 291
I strongly recommend you order a copy.
It should be fairly easy to find his parents in the 1881 census from the info you'll get from a copy of his birth certificate.
There are very few WHOLE/HOLEs in Cardiff in 1881, it seems.

Thanks Graham, :)
I think the 1901 Isaac is mine, not sure tho'. I think you are right, ordering that cert. seems to be the way to go, my problem is that I don't know if my Isaac was born in Cardiff.
Thanks again,
Karen.

Hi Kazza
Isaac Hole, m 1877
Isaac Hole, b 1883
Isaac Hole, m 1902
and Isaac James Hole, b 1905
all Glamorgan, Monmouthshire.
I was thinking if "your" Isaac had a son named Isaac James this might confirm that it's the right one on the 1901.
Regards,
Grub

thanks for that grub,
don't know if he had an Isaac James son, but think he had a Walter John about 1905 - 10, but I think the other Isaac is mine. Thanks for looking though.

Have you any connection to Richard and Mary Hole? Richard appeared in the 1871 census for Whitchurch, Cardiff lodging with the Webber family from Bampton, Devon.
Regards,
Russ

Hi there Russ,
I do not have a Richard or Mary Hole yet (apart from my mother but she isn't that old :o ). However, the Devon connection is very interesting as there seem to be lots of my Holes in Bampton, Crediton and Bideford. I will file this info for later verification.
Thanks ;D

Hi Kazza,
Yes this is the same Richard Hole that was lodging with the Webber family in Whitchurch in 1871. Richard's wife, Mary, was the daughter of George Cornwall. George also appears as a lodger with the Webber family on the census record. Do you require any further information? Most of my records relate to the Webber and Cornwall families.

Thanks Russ,
I am trying to establish who the parents of my G-Grandfather Isaac Hole are. I am waiting for his birth certificate, but I am very impatient ;D and was wondering if he could have been a later child of this couple. In which case the Webber and Cornwall family will be of interest to me as well. If you do not know, I will wait for the cert. ;D

Hi Kazza,
I don't think Isaac is directly connected with this family. He doesn't appear on the 1891 family census record. I wish you luck with the birth certificate you ordered.
