Would like to receive any information on one of my ancestors called Mary Anderson who we lived in Falkirk in 1822 and gave birth to a daughter named Helen Stirling in that same year. Obviously her husband is a Stirling and i have no other information on him either. Her daughter Helen married in Falkirk on 30th Sept 1840 to Isaac Brooks so we believe the family would still have lived in the area at that time also.
Kind Regards.

Hello Nephi,
Happy New Year and welcome to Rootchat!

Have you got a note of Helen & Isaac's children?
If not, they were Mary Anderson Brooks born 5.2.1845, John Brooks born 30.10.1848 and Isaac Brooks born 4.5.1950.
Anne.
P.S. Falkirk and Denny are only about 5 miles apart.

You may be interested to know that my wife's gt.gt.g/mother is Helen Stirling b. 1822 in Falkirk and who married Isaac Brooks on 30 Sept. 1840 in Falkirk. Helen's mother was Helen Anderson. I don't have her father's details as my research hasn't carried me beyond this point.
I was interested in the Brooks 'line' Helen and Isaac having children, one of whom was William Brooks b. 14 Sept. 1841 in Camelon, Stirling who subsequently died 22 June, 1885. My wife is from this particular line. her maiden name being Marjorie Brooks.
Whilst not helping solve your problem, I hope this might be of some interest.
Best of Luck to the Nephites,

1851 Census - Falkirk
7/2 3 256
Isaac BrookEs, aged 36, born Dunbar, East Lothian
Helen Brookes, aged 30, born Falkirk
William Brookes, aged 9, born Falkirk
Mary Brookes, aged 6, born Falkirk
John Brookes, aged 3, born Falkirk
Isaac Brookes, aged 1, born Falkirk
7 37 159
David Brookes, aged 40, born Dunbar
Elizabeth Brookes, aged 37, born Stirling
John Brookes, aged 11, born Falkirk
David Crawford Brookes, aged 6, born Falkirk
7 60 241
Hugh Brookes, aged 48, born Dunbar
Isabella Brookes, aged 12 - born Dumfries, I think? possibly daughter of Hugh Brooks and Isabella Kelton (IGI) but don't know for certain ...
The IGI (LDS submission) shows that Helen Stirling died 11 Dec 1884, mother was Mary Anderson. I looked the cert up, she died in St. Ninians, of paralysis, registered by her widower, Isaac. Mother, Mary Anderson, Agricultural Labourer, no father's name given so I think that the 'Stirling' part of her name came from Mary's subsequent marriage and she may not have been related to James Stirling at all ... I checked the OPR also, no record of a Helen Anderson or Helen Stirling born to a Mary Anderson in this time period.
Anne (bestest!!) can you check the BVR please to see if there are any marriages for the Stirling children in Denny after 1855, might be able to get some idea from the cert when Mary Anderson died, can't seem to find her dc ..
I would be very interested to hear if any of your Stirling research connects to a James Stirling married to Elizabeth McIndoe in Killearn in 1801.
regards,
Lindsay

I've lost the jist of this thread but mention Denny and I'm in there like a flash ;)
The BVR's only (in theory) go up to 1855 although now and again there are a few births after this date, of course never the ones you are looking for!
There are no marriages for any Stirlings in Denny at all so that answers that one.
I looked for births 1850 +/- 5 years and the following are the first born children to each couple, all born in Denny. If any of them are a potential match, I can do a parent search and (hopefully) find siblings.
No births between 1850 - 1855 (none registered anyway)
Between 1845 - 1850 there were 4 individual Stirling families. These were: (again I've included only 1 child who was born in this time frame so there may well be LOTS more)
Robert Stirling, born 11.08.1854 to William Stirling and Jean Shanks
Helen Stirling, born 15.02.1854 to James Stirling and Janet Walker
Elizabeth Stirling, born 27.04.1854 to John Stirling and Agnes Burns
James Stirling, born 05.09.1853 to William Stirling and Margaret Marshall
Next, especially for Lindsay (bestest!!) there were 6 children born to James Stirling and Elizabeth McIndoe, all in Killearn:
Margaret born 25.09.1803, James born 26.05.1805, Robert born 13.08.1806, John 29.05.1808, Mary born 08.07.1810 and Elizabeth born 12.06.1814.
There are quite a few Stirlings buried in Denny Cemetery so I'll have a wee look through my records and see if any of them would match up with any of the above Stirlings born in Denny.

Please Ignore what I said in the above posting about there being no Stirlings born in Denny between 1850 - 1855 :-[

Thanks for your help here. I will need to investigate further the info provided in my attempt to find Mary's husband.

Hi there I just joined this site and am also researching Helen Stirling and Isaac Brooks. They would be my gtgtgrandparents. Which child are you descended from? I follow William Brooks b 1841
