I am trying to find some information on my Gt Gt Grandmother, Jane Yates. The only information that I have is that she had a son called Lewis Bonson Yates on the 25 feb 1858. I do not have any details on Jane's D.O.B. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
DIY :)

Hello,
Was Yates her maiden name? Who did she marry? Any little snippets of information could help!
Regards, Emma ;)
-
I believe that yates was her maiden name and that her married name was Stallwood. She may have married a Richard Stallwood sometime prior to 1861.

I'm fine ;)
Can you see this lady on 1851 census.
The only one I can see is a Jane Beights of correct age and birthplace but parents don't add up. Leastways I can't actually read the father's name!
If you are a bit sloshed or whatever guess Yates could sound like Beights. Mum is Hannah but Dad?? ::) - could you have a deeko, Annie, please

Hi Jane, Hope you're still around after all this time!
Lewis Stallwood (1891 census, married to Lydia, loads of kids, Charlton Cottage) was living next door to Patrick and Alice Lynch. Alice, nee Stallwood, was my great grandmother. Her father died in 1865 (of a broken leg :( ) about two weeks before she was born. I assume Lewis and Alice were probably cousins. I know my side was connected with the bootmakers at the Sandhurst Academy.
I've been trying for over twenty years to find out more about her. The census for 1881 has the surname as Slateword (the enumerator's mistake rather than a transcription error) which took me years to find out. I have birth and death certificates for her and the death certificate of her husband but I've never been able to trace their marriage. They weren't living at that address in 1889 but certainly didn't seem to venture far from the Camberley/Aldershot area. My mother remembers her as a "lady" and insists she must have been married to Patrick. Sadly he died young in Fareham Lunatic Asylum after having a stroke at the age of 42.
Anyway, would be delighted and amazed if you have any further details on them!

Have just seen that you are searching for info on Jane Yates, son Lewis Yates. Lewis was my Gt Grandfather, he was married to Lydia Wood and had at least 13 children. Jane was married twice - first to Richard Stallwood (which is why most of the time Lewis appears listed with that surname) & also to Daniel Teasdale. Lewis doesn't have a father listed on his Birth Certificate & mother is listed as Jane Yates. Jane's parents appear to be John & Ann Cottee, not sure where the Yates comes into it? Although there is a Jane Yates born 1841 listed in Norwood Workhouse along with an Ann Yates born 1836, who later marries Edward Beech & is living with the Cottees on the 1861 census. Jane is listed as a Cottee on the 1851 census. Hope this helps to make a little sense of this (our) complex family!? If you have found out any more info then would be great to hear back form you or anyone else with links.

Lewis had a sister called Alice Stallwood, I wonder if this is your grt grandmother (HampshireGirl). In the 1871 census she is listed as being 6 years old so would have been born abt 1865
1871 CENSUS
York Town - no address recorded
Richard Stallworth Head age 35 Cordwainer
Jane wife age 30
Lewis son age 13
Emma dau age 10

Beatrice dau age 5

Julia Stallwood Lodger Widow age 41 Tailoress
Willy son age 8
Alice dau age 6
All born York Town except Julia - born Hartley Row Hants
The ages seem to tie up with your info however if Richard Stallwood was your Grt Grandmothers father he is still alive in 1871 and dies in 1876 which does not tie in with your records.
Best regards,

Lewis ran a coach/horse business and employed his family in the business. I wonder if Alice and Patrick
