Researching ALEXANDER HAY (1763-1841) and his wife ELIZABETH RUSSELL (1765-1821) of BALLYGRAINEY, near BANGOR. It’s very possible that they had a son ARCHIBALD HAY (died 1875) who married MARY RUSSELL of BALLYHOLM, BANGOR. Some of this couple’s children went to New Zealand and some remained in Ireland. I’m descended from James who remained and married JANE MANSON of COTTOWN. Their daughter AGNES is my Grandmother

Hi
I am sorry for bothering you but I was interested in this post.
ARCHIBALD HAY who married MARY RUSSELL as you said had some children. They had a daughter Elizabeth, who married a James Palmer on the 23rd of November 1857 in Newtownards, she is my 2nd Great Grandmother, and they went on to have 6 children.
Most of these children were born in Scotland when James and Elizabeth moved to a small village near Stranraer.

Hi David,
That's great info. I'm sure your line is originally from the Killinchy Hays. For a while I used to think mine were too but as I now know they were in and around Ballygrainey back in the 1700's. Some of my Mansons ended up in Scotland and many of my wife's family moved there in the 1800's for work. Good luck....Colin.

Dear Siobhan
I am interested in the Palmer line here - I see from my notes that James may have been a ploughman. Do you know if they had a connection with any of the following? Antrim or Crumlin town, railways, McCracken or Barr family especially in Scotland? He was born about 1837 around the time that I am searching for a James Palmer. Would you know the name of his father any chance? There is another marriage I have of:
Elizabeth robinson /PALMER/ and Robert Hayes.

Just on my post above, the Scottish connections turned out to be incorrect - in fact they [the Scottish Hays] are connected to a Carrickfergus family but have similar birthdates and identical names with an Archibald, son of James and grandson of another Archibald!

Hi Alexander,
I know this an old message but hopefully you are still looking.
I am John Cartwright from Ashburton in New Zealand.
My grandmother was Mary Jane Hay who married James Duff. She was a daughter of George Hay 1842 - 1924 & Elizabeth Smyth( or Smith)1844 - 1928. Married June 11 1863 & came to NZ Jan 1 1868. George had one sister Mary & three brothers James who married Jane Manson, Robert & William. Their father was Archibald Hay & mother Mary Russell. This seems to tie in with your info but I am not sure if I have it all correct. Hope to hear from you.
Kind Regards
John Cartwright

The post from Sunnyhill that you quoted says Margaret Duffy born c1833 Glasgow? so not likely to be the same as your Margaret Duffy born 1857 in Fermanagh.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the Duffys as discovered that family were not connected to mine.
