Title: John Paine SARGENT 1861, 1871
Post by: Dalum on Friday 16 December 05 08:36 GMT (UK)
John Paine SARGENT 1799-1884 was a CofE priest, born Ireland.

According to clergy lists, he held curacies in London 1852-73  and I have the following addresses:
1858  7 Bentinck Terrace, Regent’s Park, London
1865  7 Edward’s Terrace, Victoria Park
1872  9 Angela Gardens, Columbia Market, Bethnal Green

Is it possible to find him with his family in 1861 and 1871 ? (I have found most of the family in 1881).

His wife was Rachel, and their children included Henry John (c1833), Forbes, George, Arthur, Charlotte Georgiana (c1841), Elizabeth Lily (c1843?), Ellinor (c1848),Emma Beresford (c1849) (most if not all, born in Ireland). Emma was my 2xGt Grandmother.

Thanks for any help!

Hugh in Sheffield  :)

Fantastic!
Tanja, thank you so much for these.

So many delicious new questions. Such as, why are three clergymen running a school for military education?!  :o

Thanks again,
Hugh

;D Yes, puzzling. It does seem to say military though. In 1861, all the pupils are just down as plain 'scholars'. In 1871, we have the details:
1. Student for Oxford
2. Student for Indian C Service
3. Student for Army
4. Student for Indian C Service

Hi Hugh

I note your connection to the Sargent family.  My great great grandfather's first cousin, Mary Elizabeth Cooper, daughter of General Alfred Cooper, married James Forbes Sargent, son of John Paine Sargent, in India in 1869.  I am trying to trace the descendants of James and Mary and wondered if you could help me here.  I have a few details of their children and could pass those on if you are interested.

Thanks and regards
