Are there any Masters out there or anyone done any research on the Masters family? My research goes back to 1693 and covers Northampton Town, Church Brampton, Heyford, Stowe Nine Churches, Farthingstone, Litchborough and Priors Marston in Warwickshire.
Look forward to hearing from you if you have any info and if you are interested in my research so far.

Hi Beverley. Sorry haven't replied to your message before - I don't check my e-mails as often as I should!
Thanks for replying re: the Masters. I have been researching my maternal Grandfather's line, John Thomas Masters, known as Tom, for a few month's now.
I will go quickly through the direct line of the tree. Tom's father was Clarence Robert Masters (my g/grandfather), his father was Frederick Masters and his mother and father were Joseph and Mary Ann Masters (nee Barfoot) (my g/g/g-grandparents). Joseph and Mary lived at Church Brampton and their graves are in the Churchyard there (worth a visit if you are in that area as they are quite well preserved).
Joseph Masters' father was, as you know, Samuel Masters. Samuel was born at Stowe Nine Churches in Northamptonshire in 1758. He married Elisabeth Bryan and they lived at Church Brampton, where they had eight children, one of whom was Joseph. I have a copy of Samuel's Will, he was a fairly wealthy man when he died. The original Will is at the Northampton Record Office at Wootton Hall and again is worth a visit to see it.
As you said, Joseph Masters had a son, also called Joseph, b. 1831 who married Ruth Darby of Litchborough. There are Masters graves at Litchborough Churchyard.
Anyway, back to Samuel! He was one of thirteen children all born at Stowe Nine Churches! His mother and father were Edward Masters, b. 31 May 1721 at Priors Marston, and Sarah Jenkins, b 1725 at Priors Marston, Warwickshire. She died in 1799 at Heyford.
Edward's father was Edward Masters, b 1693 at Priors Marston, his mother's name was Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). She was born in 1698 again at Priors Marston.
There are quite a few Masters graves in the Churchyard at Priors Marston.
I have about 134 names on my Masters family tree so far, so I can only tell you about the direct line back to Edward Masters, b 1693, otherwise I'd be here all night!
I hope this helps you with your research. If I can help any more please let me know.
Most of the B/D/M info can be found in the Parish Records of Church Brampton, Heyford, and Stowe Nine Churches held at Wootton Hall.
The data relating to the Warwickshire ancestors was obtained from the IGI website and I haven't had this data confirmed. All the other data has been obtained from the Records Office from Parish Records, etc.
Happy hunting!

Hello, Bev
I think I'm getting my Frederick's mixed up! Are you saying that Joseph Masters and Ruth Darby of Litchborough had a son called Frederick and he is your g/grandfather? If so, perhaps you could fill me in with this side of the family. I have only got Joseph and Ruth having two daughters, Harriett (who married a man called Seaton, first name unknown) and Annie who married a Charles Williams. I know there must be a male line because there are Masters graves in the Litchborough Churchyard - John Brown Masters d 27 April 1928 aged 81 yrs and his wife, Elizabeth d 18 November 1935 aged 88 yrs. Also one for Albert Sidney Masters, b 30 January 1924, d 27 February 1992 - this was had fresh flowers on it when we visited the churchyard.
The Frederick Masters (who is my g/g-grandfather) was a son of Joseph and Mary Ann Masters. Yes you are right, he married Catherine Costello on the 12 October 1867 at St Judes Church in Dublin. He was a Lance Corporal of the 48th Northamptonshire Regiment. They had three children, Mary Ann, b. Fermoy 23 July 1868, Clarence Robert, b Malta 1870 and Joseph, b 1872 in the East Indies. On Mary's birth certificate, Catherine's surname is spelt Costelow.
Clarence (known as Robert) did marry Amy Jane Garrett on the 16 Sept. 1889. My uncle, Raymond Masters, can still remember going to visit Clarence at his home at 4 Weston Place, Northampton (now St Peter's Way) when he was a boy.
Do you have any information on Clarence's birth in Malta? I have drawn a blank trying to get a copy B.Cert.
Both Clarence and his father Frederick died at the Northampton Workhouse and are both buried in unmarked graves at Billing Road Cemetary in the town. A sad end I think.
Emma (d of Joseph and Mary) married a William ?Jesse Slater on the 24 December 1855 at Brampton.
Incidentally, Samuel Masters (Joseph's dad) was also buried at Brampton but I wasn't able to find a headstone for him. The burial record says that he was buried on the 30 April 1832 and that he had been Clerk of Church Brampton for 26 years.
Hope this is helpful. I can always send you photocopies of documents if you wish.

I have Masters from Northants in my tree.
They were from Staverton in the main part.
You will find a lot of research on the net, Google for Chris Masters's site which covers most of Northants.
We have been researching them for over 20 years now, between us all so you should find plenty of information.
Good luck with it
Louise
PS If you want to PM me with your email address I will have a look to see if we are related.

Hi I've just found out that Catherine COSTELLO was the sister of my Gt G/Ma Emily. They both married soldiers from the barracks in Dublin. Their father Thomas owned /ran the dairy there.
Emily married George SWEETLAND they settled in London. Emily died in 1883 and George in 1886.
I have traced Catherine & Frederick and their family in Northants on some of the censuses.
