Hello, is anyone researching these families?
They are buried in St Serfs Cemetary Dysart.
I am a decendant of Peter Givens (Shipwright) and Martha Normand.
Does anyone now who the parents of Martha Normand were? Or Peter Givens?
Were the Normands also a shipping family?

Hi, whiteout, Peter Givens was married to my grandmothers aunt. Her name was Janet Henderson and she married Peter in 1858 in Dysart (426/00 0006) Peter's mother was Martha Normand. His father was also named Peter, and both Peters were shipwrights according to Peter Jr and Janet's wedding cert. I've got a bit on the Hendersons but that's about all I have on the Givens.

Wow, thats interesting. I have done a bit more of my tree.
I think Janet Hendersons parents were Robert Henderson and Euphemia Wilson?
Do you think that is correct?
You don't know who Robert Hendersons or Euphemia Wilsons parents were?
Janet Henderson was my Gr.Gr.Grandmother!

Hi Melissa, wow, my gr gr grandfather Alexander Henderson was the brother of your gr gr gran Janet Henderson. Their parents were Robert Henderson and Euphemia Wilson. Robert's parents were George Henderson, ships carpenter and Janet Philp. married 13/9/1788 in dysart. Euphemia's parents were Alexander Wilson and Jane Ritchie , married in Wemyss 18/11/1796. Martha Normand's father was John Normand and her mother was Dinah Masson, or Diana Mason. Peter's father was also Peter Givens. The Normands had a big manufacturing business in dysart, not sure what they made but I can try and find out. There's a site which I just found tonight that might interest you: http://www.fifefhs.org/Records/Burials/dysartstserf.htm which lists lots of normands and givens, and Janet Henderson. fascinating.
Alexander Henderson (my gr gr grandfather) married Margaret Ogilvie Ferguson, they had 7 children of which the youngest Jean (or Jane or Jeanie) married John Howieson who was my grandad. Their son Robert was my dad. would love to know how you connect to Janet, it's fascinating isn't it? If I can fill in any gaps for you, I'd be delighted, I haven't found the earliest dates yet. cheers

Hi Leslie, here is what I know of my line:
Janet Henderson(aged 23) married Peter(aged 25) Givens 4 Jan 1858 in Dysart.
Janets father (Robert Henderson) was listed as a Haydresser.
The witness' to the marriage were Alexander Henderson (your one?) and Robert Landess.
**********************************
Janet and Peter had a daughter called Hannah Givens (I have a photograph of her, but don't know how many brothers, sisters?)
Hannah Givens married James Wemyss(his family were from West Wemyss), 15 July 1904 in Dysart.
*********************************
They had a daughter called Hannah Wemyss.
I think they had more daughters
and only one son (Peter Wemyss)
Hannah Wemyss was my grandmother, she married and came to New Zealand. She had 5 Children.
Has your family wandered away from Dysart too? I think my grandmother still has living relatives in Kirkcaldy. I am trying to write down the older history because 2 years ago we knew very little.
I am quite impressed that you know Roberts and Euphemia's parents because I have not been able to get to that point. (Thankyou for telling me the names.
I had printed off the St.Serfs burials and was quite impressed with how many Givens and Normands there were! I knew there would have to be someone out there related to them.

thanks for that info, Melissa, I can give you the names of Peter Givens and Janet Hendersons children:
Peter Givens: b24/10/1863 in Dysart and died 16/10/1868 in Dysart.
Robert Henderson Givens; b 4/3/1865 DysartEuphemia Wilson Givens: b 4/3/1865 Dysart
Peter Givens: b 20/5/1870 Dysart
Martha Normand Givens: b18/12/1871
Janet Henderson Givens: 3/11/1873 Dysart.
Hannah Duncan Givens: 28/9/1875 Dysart.
I'm afraid I haven't got dates of death yet.
There was a son born to James Wemyss(colliery engineman) and Hannah, his name was James b16/5/1905. I get my info from the Scotlandspeople.gov.uk site so can't get births later than that unless I go into Edinburgh.so it was interesting to hear of Peter Jr.
I managed to get right away from dysart, a whole 7 miles down the coast to burntisland, lol. Lesley

Hi Leslie, I didn't have the names of Janet Hendersons and Peter Givens children and for the life of me I could not find out the birth of Hannah Duncan Givens. I don't know why because I use Scotlands people too.
I think James Wemyss born 1905, died in childhood (told this by his sister). I know a little bit more about the family but don't want to post here, as I am not sure of how many decendants there are from James generation in Scotland. I have not met them. I must go through my parents old mail because I think we were still receiving mail from them 10 years ago, mum might of kept something?
I know they are not internet savy, so I could only write to them. My grandmother was the youngest so her and James generation could all be gone now?

Hi, Melissa, I got the names of the children from the 1881 census when they lived in Hot Pot wynd - what a great name! I know what you mean about giving out details of the more recent names, I'm a bit reluctant that way myself, you always feel you might just be infringing the privacy of their descendants.
I'm more interested in the further back people. Lesley
