RootsChatterBox Working!
We have now got RootsChatterBox up and running! :) It should be great for quick exchanges of information (like lookups) or quick help or questions.
Don't forget that you can already also "instant message" other members whether they are logged in or not - in any post, click on their name then click on "Send this member a private message."
Anyhow, to use the RootsChatterBox you need to be logged in (otherwise you won't even see the chat button)
When you first use it:
- Click on the Chat button (http://www.rootschat.co.uk/forum/Images/chat.gif)
- You will then be asked to trust a JavaScript certificate - click "yes"
(I've attached an image of it on this message - but yours might look slightly different)
- Wait while this 'Java' downloads - on some slower connections this will seem like nothing is happening! ::)
- The RootsChatterBox will open - and you're on!
Next time you use it:
- Click on the Chat button (http://www.rootschat.co.uk/forum/Images/chat.gif)
Please remember that the chat room is not secure and could be visible to others. A safer way to exchange more confidential information instantly is using the RootsChat instant message to another user.
Have fun, hope it's useful! It's only one small part of RootsChat, but some of you might use it.

PS In the long run we are going to be running our own custom made RootsChatterBox - but this one uses a third-party facility for now.
