Title: PAYNE/WARD
Post by: Goorikidz on Tuesday 07 September 04 00:22 BST (UK)
Looking for ancestors of Richard `Gilbridge' known as Gill, PAYNE and his wife Mary WARD from Hugglescote.  They arrived in Australia as emmigrants on the ship `Diana' in 1848, with 2 children John and George.
They had 8 more children born out here.  The 1st child born in Australia Elizabeth Payne was my husbands ggrandmother.
Any help appreciated
Janette

Thinking “ Gilbridge “ could have been a Transcriber mistake.

There was a " Gutteridge " Family found.
Sorry no Richard in either Families.

Hi Mike

Many thanks for checking up on the 1841 census for me.  I can only go by the info they supplied when they arrived in Aust.  It took us ages to find them as Richard came out under the christian name of `Gillbridge'.  This family out here used nicknames with every child.
Considering Hugglescote was only a small village I thought that there would be a chance that someone resided, there.
Again thanks
Janette

Hi
Sorry but I forgot that Mary Ward came from Southgate, Leicestershire, and they were married in Leicestershire in 1844.

Sorry

There were Wards in Peatling Parva in 1861, and in Broughton Astley in 1831, that have cropped up in my research, if it's any help.

Would it be possible to check out Kirbymuxlow?  For the Payne family?

Hubby has just told me to ask for there.  Their second child was born in Kirbymuxlow.  That came from their arrival record in Aust.

Mike

Sorry but just noticed that I didn't answer one of your questions.
Could you please look in Kirbymuxlow and Hugglescote for this family.  They had their first child born in Hugglescote.
John Wynn Payne born 1846, at Hugglescote.
George W,. Payne born 1848 at Kirbymuxlow.

They arrived in Australia in 1848, and their 3rd child was born here in 1851.

Thanks

Janette

Hello Janet,

I have a GG gf from Hugglescote, John Payne, wheelwright, born 1822; (parents Charles Payne and Mary Dean), who arrived in Sydney aboard "Sir John Paget" 14 Feb 1842. He married Frances Ross in Brisbane, 1845, and they later settled in Fairy Meadow, Wollongong. Successive daughters married Grimshaw/Green/Murphy.
Am guessing there will be a connection with your family, as Hugglescote seems to be such a small community.
Wondering if you have any earlier records?

Regards,
John

Hi John
I know about your John but as they have different parents to Richard known as 'Gil' Payne, think he, John could be a cousin but don't know any more about the families in Hugglescote.  Gill's parents were Charles Payne and Eunice.  Though you will find on Ancestry.com that someone has them listed as brothers.  We have yet to see any proof and original researchers here in Australia assured us that they were not related.
Think the families may also have been connected to the Biddle family, but know nothing about them.
Would be interested should you find anything to add to our knowledge of the family.
I know back then that Hugglescote was a one road town.

Thanks for the post
Janette
