I am trying to find out about the history of Ivy House Godstone in Surrey. My husbands Nan wrote a postcard to an Aunt after a visit and travelled home with the Ballif. She was born in 1900 and I assume to travel like this she may have been in her teens. The postcard is just addressed to Mrs Potter. A lot of the Potters were born and lived in Potters Cottage Godstone but I cannot find the connection to Ivy House. Anyone have any ideas on how to check on occupants of Ivy House over the 1900's?

Not particularly helpful, but in 1891 a Phillip de Clermont lived there, according to a Kelly's Directory.

Around 1922/1923 it was the Brandts (from The Times, Mrs Brandt was looking for a new second parlourmaid in 1922, the old one was leaving to be married). 15 August 1923 Arthur H. Brandt of Ivy House, Godstone, died. The house appears in the property lists not long after.
London Gazette (12 August 1904) shows that Charles Robert Phillip de Claremont died 12 Feb 1904 at Ivy House - Arthur Henry Brandt was one of the executors of his will! Arthur Henry Brandt of Ivy House, Godstone, is also listed as a land tax commissioner (one of many, I had to go back about 20 pages to figure out what they were talking about!) in the Dec 28 1906 London gazette, so it would seem he inherited the house. 1912 and 1920 marriages in The Times for his sons show him as listed of Ivy House, Godstone (although in 1912 he was also of 53 Hans Mansions SW).
His sons:
William Robert Brandt m. 15 Jun 1912 Dorothea Runge d. of Julius Runge.
Arthur Constantin Brandt m. Sep 14 1920 Nancy Margaret Clisby d. of Charles W. Clisby.
(he probably had more; William is listed as 'eldest' Arthur is listed as 'second son').
He also had two daughters - Pauline May, 'younger' daughter of the late Arthur Henry Brandt, d. 1972 aged 80.

I know you wrote this post a long time ago, but if you are still interested, I am a direct descendent of the Potters of Potter's Cottage.
