Title: Military Base At Barnsley
Post by: Harold on Sunday 27 November 05 12:55 GMT (UK)
Good Morning

Can anyone tell me if there was a military base with housing for families at Barnsley in the 1870's and if so what regiment was stationed there.

Thank you

Harold

Hi Harold

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you posted something on the Armed Forces Board http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,300.0.html ?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Hi Harold,
I have never heard of any army units bring stationed
at Barnsley. Only at times of war have units been farmed out all
over the country but i don't know of any regular army connection
or tradition. Try checking with the Barnsley history society, they
will know.
