I lookin for any links to Elizabeth Elsie Asmore born in Burton-on-Trent in 1887, I know that the family were linked/owned a Brewery in the area.
Thanks

Hi Poacher
What info do you have and what are you seeking?

Hi Arronroots,
I have just received a copy of my grandmothers birth cert, it states Elizabeth Elsie Ashmore, b 1887 Burton on Trent, Staffs. I think there was a brother????? just wondered if there are any descedants that might be related to my family.
I know there is an Ashmore's Ice Cream company/family in Uttoxeter, but I would like to know if there are any others Ashmore's.
The other strange thing is I have trawled through the 1901 census and I cannot find my grandmother listed??????
Thanks, Best Rgds

Hi Poacher
Can you post the rest of the info from the cert? this will make it ocnsiderably easier to find her on censuses, and then others might make a connection.
We need her parents' names & the address at time of birth would be handy, together with dad's occupation.
have had a quick look, but no joy!
kind regards, Arranroots ;)

Hi Arronroots,
Not being good at these things and this is a bit new I've been told that the birth cert is a copy and therefore only shows details of my grandmothers birth, name and dates.
It records her birthday as the 19th Jan 1887, so I guess unless i can find her in the 1901 census I will not know her mother and fathers names!!
Kind Rgds

I had a look and couldn't find her either. It could be that they used a nickname when she was small.
It sounds as though you have the short version of the birth certificate, but since you know where/ when etc it might be worth investing in the full version, which will give her parents' names. Have a look at Freebmd to find the reference for the birth and you can send to the GRO for the cert, or else contact the register office in question direct. It costs £7. (There are threads on how to do this in the Beginners' board).
Do you know whether she had siblings that would be alive pre-1901? The brother for example?
I am assuming the family stayed in the area? Don't forget to interrogate (!) any surviving elderly rellies that you can locate!!
Will have another look, but let me know how you get on with the cert.

This is a possibility:
RG13/2646
ASHMORE Jospeh H M 38 - house painter - Worcs Hartlebury
ASHMORE Annie W M 34 - Burton on Trent
ASHMORE Elsie dau 14 - do
ASHMORE Annie dau 11 - do
ASHMORE Ethel dau 8 - do
ASHMORE Horace son 6 - do
ASHMORE Charles son 2 - do
Address: 197 Stafford St, Horniglow, Staffordshire
You still need a birth/ marriage cert for Elsie to double-check though! Especially if you think her dad should be a brewer or an ice-cream maker! ;D
