I am looking for the passenger list of the S.S Haverford sailing from Liverpool and arriving in Philadelphia 11 September 1904.
I have some information about my Grandfather Girolomo Gentile sailing on the ship but I would like to see the manifest if possible any ideas where it might be accessed.

You'll have to get this on microfilm. For a complete list of film numbers for ships going to PA
after 1820, see
http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/filmnos_pa.shtml
Find the film you need and write down the NARA or Family History Centre film number you need.
Then you can order the film in to your nearest FHC or have NARA do the lookup for you.
You could also get it online on Ancestry.com If you want to take a free trial for those ships lists, see

HI Annie,
That certainly looks like him. Where did you get the information from? I am trying to trace his birth place in Italy.
He was living in Chester up to then and I pick him up in 1910 with my grandmother who he married later. Is there a ships manifest which might show place of birth?
Thanks for the help

Hi George !
Don't talk to me about Italians - I'm looking for one myself!!!! ::)
You might get some ideas from the NARA site - if you find him on any census it should say if he is Naturalised or is a Citizen or not - if he is - you may be able to get his papers!

Just a thought!

Hi Annie,
Girolomo Gentile my Grandfather said he was a British subject in 1901, the only problem was that he forgot to tell the British Government. I have searched the National Archives and had someone double check and there is no records, He came into the country about 1888, and in 1892 married a Dewsbury girl Annie Taylor under the name of John Taylor, he then went on to marry my grandmother in Oswestry well I think if he wasn't already married. We'll catch up with them one of these days - then they'd better watch out!! I'll post if I find something!

Have you seen this?
Maria Gentili
Born 11 Jul 1892 Dewsbury Yorkshire
Died Birkenhead
father Giorolamo Gentili
married Joseph Deponio born Apr 1888 Swansea Wales
Died Birkenhead
Annie
PS I do have death dates and children!

Hi Annie,
I don't know how you do it.
I have some of the information but not in the format you seem to have. I have no information about the children, but I know some of their names. I haven't any information about Joseph, but I think he was an orphan. I do know they were in Oswestry with my Grandfather and I believe it was a big family.
I am trying to locate the ship my Grandfather Girolomo came back on between 1904 and 1910, he was in Shrewsbury in March 1910, it may give me some more information.
Today I sent of 21 letters to various towns and villages in Italy, its worth a try, but perhaps I am wasting postage.
I am trying to locate the ship from Naples my Great Grandmother ( don't know her first name) came on to Liverpool in 1919. My cousins say they had her visa, but they have lost it.
Thanks again for the help.

PS I'm going to quote "eillo" from another posting
USA (and Canada) did not keep outbound lists. The records for all ship passengers travelling
between 1890 and 1960 survives within the collection of original British Board of Trade passenger lists. The only place they can be seen is at the Public Record Office in Kew, England.
These lists are not filmed, not indexed and they are not available on-line.
See http://www.passengerlists.co.uk/ for more help

Hi Annie,
Yes I have seen the young man, there's no doubt he is my Grandfather Girolomo Gentile. He went on to marry Annie Taylor as John Taylor before the Birth of Maria Gentili, who was christened Mary Gentile Taylor, In your previous Message.
Thanks for the information on the ships leaving America, I have emailed the company to get the cost. I think I could do with going to Kew.
Could you let me have all the information you have on Maria, Joseph and the children.
Grateful

So was Antonio his Dad then?
I'll PM you with the other information as I can't post them on here! ( too recent!!)
You might try Scottie Press - you may find some information about Street Musicians !!
can't remember their url off the top of my head but if you Google - you'll get it!!
Annie :)
-
Hi Annie,
Yes Antonio was his Dad. I didn't know he was in the country until about 6 months ago when we visited Oswestry Library and the researcher found his obituary in an old newspaper. Girolomo registered him.
It looks like Antonio's wife never lived here, but I don't know where Maria/Mary was in 1901 as she wasn't with Annie and Girolomo. She appeared again in Chester when she married Joseph Diponio.
Many thanks for the other information.
In your debt once again
Best wishes.

There are 2 Gentiles on the same ship 6 years later returning to Philadelphia on 24 March 1910. Both are 17 and one has the initial G.
-
Hi, Shep,
None of these are my Grandfather Girolomo Gentile. He was with my Grandmother in Shrewsbury on that date. My uncle Antonio was born on the 19 March 1910 and it was my Grandfather who registered him.
I am trying to find out when he returned to the UK.
-
Hi George,
Do you know who the Antonio Gentile is who was registered in 1915 in Atcham, Shropshire? Does he figure in your tree at all?
Are there any other siblings of Antonio and your mother? Sorry to bombard you with questions but I really appreciate your knowledge and help.
Thanks.
Shep.
-
Hi Shep,
Antonio Gentile was my Great Grandfather, He died in Oswestry 29th January 1917.
There were 4 half sisters by his previous marriage to Ann Taylor. Maria who was married to Joseph Diponio, Elenor, Francesca I think got married in Liverpool, to a Rodderick Oconnah and Rose who died when she was one year old. By the way who is the research on behalf of.

Research is a surprise for my best friend from schooldays who is the son of Fergus Gentile. I went to Overleigh lunch time and took a photo of the Gentile family grave to show him. Did you ever find the grave in the old cemetery?
Rose is buried in a paupers grave in old Overleigh cemetery per their database.
-
Hi Shep,
Yes I have seen it a nice tribute to Antonio and Agnes. My Grandfather is buried in the old cemetery.
