Title: WW1 Soldier's Regiment
Post by: geoffandnina on Thursday 02 September 04 00:35 BST (UK)
How can I ascertain from a photo, the Regiment in which my grandfather served in WW1. It was taken in 1915 in Ongar (Essex) and says Regt Police. There are 8 soldiers in this posed photo with 3 or 4 different cap badges. I can email the photo if there is anyone who feels they have any suggestions. Unfortunately although his name is now published on the medals web site, his name "William Berry" is one of 267, but which one!!
Thanks
Geoff Berry

Help on identifying cap badges is available on the internet at www.egframes.co.uk/indexbadge.htm.  This info is from the new book by David Hey called "Journeys in Family History" so it is up-to-date.  I haven't used it myself however.

Hope it's helpful.

Regards

Honeybun
