Hello, does anyone have access to the 1841 census covering the parish of Stone. I am trying to trace the birthplace of my great, great, great grandfather, William Stoneham. He married Rebecca Jenkins on 13/10/1821 in Stone and they went on to have seven children all born in Stone during 1820s to 1844. Without his birthplace (it is not given on the parish marriage records, which I found on Cityark) I am currently unable to trace him through the 1851 census as the children have either married, died or are not living at home by then. He was still alive in 1853 as he is on the marriage certificate of my great, great grandfather.
Regards

Hi Marilyn,
Here's the Stoneham entries that I could find in Stone in 1841. The 1841 census only lists names, ages and occupations; relationships and birthplaces were not supplied until the 1851 census.

Hi Marilyn
Although it doesn't say that William was deceased on one of his childrens' marriage certificates 1853, he could well be - it wasn't always noted that the father was deceased on marriage certificates until the late 19c.
A quick search of the burial registers for Stone show that both William and Rebecca appear to have died between 1841 and 1851. You can see the actual registers online:
http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/query/results/?Mode=Search&PathList=%2FZ4a_Medway_Ancestors%2F%0A&SearchWords=&DateList
It might be a good idea to collect all the STONEHAM entries from the Stone registers to see if they all tie up - perhaps the elder William is your William's father even :)
Best wishes

Hello Carol
Thanks very much for this. The William Stoneham age 45 is the right one, with my great, great grandfather William aged 12. Sorry, I didn't realise that birthplaces were not listed on the 1841 census. What a shame, I don't know where to go from here, but am very grateful to you for your help.
Best wishes

Hi Marilyn,
Have been through the 1851 census for Stone, and found Richard and wife still there.
ref HO107 1607 folio 543 page 48: King Street, Stone
Richard Stoneham head mar age 47 farm labourer born Stone
Sarah do wife mar age 46 born Stone
Frederick do son age 10 born Stone
also found this one:
ref HO107 1607 folio 541 page 45: address unclear but near King street
Henry Stoneham lodger age 25 no occupation shown born Stone
(lodging with Richard Mercer and family)
It would probably be worth checking the Stone baptism registers for your William and Richard. As Richard was born in Stone, there's quite a good chance that William might have been as well.
Hope this helps,
xx Carol
