Hi All
This is probably a very long shot but in tracing my father's line back to 1803-1805 I've come to a standstill as all my research has been in North Wales until this point....hence my 1st venture over to the Northumberland board!!!
I have a James Moralee born 1805, in each census his birthplace given as Newcastle,Northumberland. A have a photocopy of his baptism record (which is very difficult to read...to say the least!!!) but I can make out his father was a Matthew W Moralee.
Any help or tips on where I can go from here greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Sarah,
Sorry didn't find James but www.familysearch.org has these baptisms for children with parents Matthew Morrowlee and Alice Elliott all at All Saints, Newcastle:
Mary Morrowlee bapt.28 Aug 1796
Elizabeth Morrowlee born 6 Aug 1799 bapt. 3 Nov 1799
Henry Morrowlee born 19 Aug 1802 bapt.12 Sep 1802
And with parents Matthew Morralee and Elizabeth Ramsay:
Jane Morralee born 13 Feb 1805 bapt 2 Jun 1805
There are also baptisms for children of Isaac Moralee and Ann Ismay (perhaps Isaac was Matthew's brother)
If you enter Moralee into the search engine at www.genuki.org.uk they have quite a few church records there with that name included

Hello Sarah.
I have just noticed your plea for help with James Moralee.
My Grandmothers family have decendants from the Moralee's. From Newcastle and Northumberland.
Michael Moralee mrd. Jane Cowling. in Newcastle 1833.
She was the widow of Ralph Cowling a Brickmaker.
I have found some Births for
Mathew Moralee and Elizabeth(Ramsay)
B. 13.2.1085. James. Chr. 2.6.1805. All Saints. Newcastle.
Elizabeth's father. Michael Ramsay.
B. 3.3.1807. Michael. Chr. 26.45.1807. Longbenton.Northumberland.
B. Margaret. 17.7.1809 Chr. 13.8.1809. Longbenton.
I hope this will help you. If I can be of any further help in looking up anything for you, just ask. I have been researching for myself and friends for a number of years now. I am a member of the Northumberland and Durham family history society, and have a lot information on microfiche and CD's.
June.

Many thanks Barbara and June
I've just re-read the very hard to read photocopy...and that's my chap!!
James Moralee b.13/02/1805 and bapt.02/06/1805
The next record I've got of him is in the 1851 living with his wife and family in Mold, Flintshire, North Wales where the family remained, James died in 1865. He was my g.g.g grandfather.
Desendents remained in North Wales in and around Mold, the surname, as you can imagine has undergone some spelling alterations!!! and has been Morrlle since c.1880s Imagine how many times I've heard "shouldn't there be a vowel in there somewhere!!" LOL
You've both helped me start to research further back as previously I was stuck with the 1851 info!!!
Many thanks again
Sarah :)

I am wondering about James Moralee and Jane Moralee. Different sources have them both born 2 Feb 1805 and baptised 2 June 1805. I haven't seen documention in the same place for both. I wonder if Jane and James are really the same person. For instance I see birth records for the time period in question showing children of Matthew Moralee and Elizabeth being James, Michael and Margaret. Elsewhere, I have seen, in fact in this forum, birth and baptism for Jane.
I am descended from Michael Moralee. He was in the USA by 1828 and died in California in 1887. I have all sorts of information on this line of (by then) American Moralees. There is at least one other line of "American" Moralees originally from England: Obadiah Moralee b. 1848 and his brother Mathew b. 1846. There is a woman here in the States who has done a lot of digging into that family. I haven't been able to make a connection between this bunch and James and Michael Moralee.
This link has some information on the Obadiah family in Arkingarthdale, Yorkshire. www.Dalesgenealogy.com/census/arkindale_61.html
