Hi,
I would like to know if there is a marriage after 1841 for a Mary LUCAS (nee BUCKINGHAM) to a John LANTHORN born somerset.
They appear on the 1851 Census at St Heliers with G R Lucas (my GG Grandfather George Robert Lucas who came to New Zealand about 1855) and Henry B Lucas of whom I cannot find any more information.
Mary's first marriage was in 1834 to George Lucas from South Hill, Cornwall.
I do not know what happened to George Lucas.
Thanking you
Christy

Hi Christy -
The marriage reference is in St Helier parish church, Jersey
period August 1842-May 1845
John LINTHORN (sic) page 130
Mary LUCAS page 130.
With this reference you can order a copy of the entry from -
The Superintendent Registrar
10 Royal Square
St Helier,
Jersey JE2 4WA
(tel 01534 502335)
enclosing a cheque for £10 + postage (UK 50p; Europe £1; elsewhere £2)
I had a quick look for deaths of George Lucas in Jersey before 1842, and for Henry B Lucas after 1851, but nothing found so far.
Hope this helps

Hi Mike,
Thank you so much for that.
Could you please tell me what information I could expect to get on the marriage certicifate?

Hi Christy -
I think it should give:
- date of marriage
- where they were married
- full names of groom and bride (incl maiden name)
- age (or 'full age')
- whether bachelor/spinster/ widow(er) etc
- occupation of groom / bride
- residence at time of marriage
- father's name and occupation
- and witnesses - often othe family members.
It's well worth having the original document.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for that information. I well get a copy of the marriage certificate.
I think I have found Mary Linthorn on the 1871 Census in Jersey.
Mary Linthorn Head Widow age 67 (she was 35 on the 1841 Census and 40 on the 1851 Census and I have not been able to find her on the 1861 Census)
born St Heliers Livng at 49 Garden Lane, St Heliers.
She must have died before 1881. She was my 3 times Great Grandmother and until lately I have not been able to find very much out about her. I still do not know her fathers name. But suspect that it might have been Henry BUCKINGHAM.
Thanks for all your help
Christy
