Title: Livermore - Felsted/Felstead
Post by: jolou27 on Sunday 13 November 05 16:13 GMT (UK)
I am researching the Livermore's who as far as I can see originated from Felstead/Felsted, Essex. Am keen to learn about any Livermore's or generally anything about Felsted as there's not a lot that can be gleamed from books and the net - unless anyone has links to information.
I have only just started researching this part of my family history and so don't have a lot, hence any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Jolou,

Welcome to rootschat  :)

What century are you looking at? Any names to go on? Did you find them on the 1881 census free to search?

Do you have some specific names for people you would like us to try and trace?

Tanja  :)

Thanks for that information - it was very helpful!
I think the second Joseph Livermore living in Molehill Green with his wife Eliza must be related. The 5 year old little girl Eliza must be great great grandmother as the birth year would be approximately the same and i knew her father was joseph and her mother eliza also. That family later went on to have another child called joseph livermore who was roughly 18 years younger than eliza, his sister. I didn't know she had other siblings as i had not got that information yet. I have some information on Moses Livermore, so I can put them all in my tree now perhaps!

Thanks once again, the kindness of strangers is truly remarkable

Jo

That family later went on to have another child called joseph livermore who was roughly 18 years younger than eliza, his sister.

Then this would fit for the family in 1861:

1861 Felsted   RG9 1116 78 p30

Molehill Green
Joseph Livermore, head, mar, 53, Ag Lab, b. Felsted
Eliza Livermore, wife, mar, 52, b. Fairstead, Essex
Daniel Livermore, son, unm, 18, Ag Lab, b. Felsted
Joseph Livermore, son, 11, b. Felsted
Sarah Livermore, dau, 7, b. Felsted

Felsted is Dunmow district.   1851 Census is missing.

1861 Felsted   RG9 1116 69 p12

Willers (Willow?) Green
Moses Livermore, head, mar, 23, Ag Lab, b. Felsted
Eliza Livermore, wife, mar, 22, b. Rayne, Essex
William Livermore, son, 3, b. Felsted
Emily Livermore, dau, 2, b. Felsted
Peter Livermore, son, 5 mo, b. Felsted

Thanks so much for your help.
Is there anyway of finding out where the sister Eliza was on the 1861 census. As far as I know she had her first child William in 1863/4 - he was named Livermore as were all his siblings born later - they seem to have taken their mother's name i.e. they were illigetimate i presume. I have not managed to find out who any of Eliza's children's fathers were - were they the same unavailable man or more than one man. All I do know is that on her son, Arthur William Livermore's marriage certificate in 1911 his father's name and occupation were stroked through and no information entered.
I can't think of any way of finding out who their father was.

Hi Jo,

I think this could be her:
RG9/1115 114 19
Braintree, Essex
London Road

Eliza Livermore, serv, unm, 24, General servant domestic, b. Felsted Head of household is a Phebe Goose, 74, Funded Proprietor

Tanja  :)

PS In 1871, she's with her mother and her 2 children William age 7 and Kate age 1 in Felstead
Do you already have it?

Yes I do already have the image for 1871, thanks for asking though.
Living in the area myself, I think that London Road is the main road which goes between Braintree and Gt Leighs/Felsted area. Will have a look and check - does anyone know any good places on the net to obtain old maps of the UK

Hi,
Saw your posting and thought I'd add a few thoughts as I live in Felsted. Felsted village centre is surrounded by lots of greens.
Molehill green is still molehill Green.
Willers Green is Williows Green.
Burlingstye Green, could be Bannister Green, or Burnstye Green
Cock Green is still Cock Green and close to Bannister Green
Grand Courts is a large House towards Rayne.

I have a few old images of felsted, although Google image search throws up most of them if you search on "Felsted". The Church has website www.felstedchurch.org , the church site currently has a village profile as we have been advertsiing for a new Vicar. The profile includes some nice photos. There is also a village website www.felstedplus.co.uk which has some local history and a nice gallery.

Hope this helps

Just checked www.genesconnected.co.uk and there are three people listing a total of 28 Livermore family members born in Felsted.
Worth making a connection if you haven't already.

I live in Great Yeldham - but don't know the Felsted area a great deal. A friend told me that there was a molehill green nearer stansted somewhere - are there two molehill greens then?

thanks for your help btw!

Hi,
Molehill green, Felsted is just east of Bannister Green, and south east of Frenches Green, and just west of Willows Green. It only comprises a few houses, and a farm. A very pretty corner of the parish.

Hello

I've just discovered this site, and looking through came across this thread, jolou25, i am a direct descendant of the other Joseph Livermore through his son Aaron, little bit of information i have they must have been friends, as according to Felstead marriages 1813-1837 they both married on the same day, Dec 4th 1829, my Joseph to Ann Crow and the other Joseph to Eliza Wakefield, also the same time Aaron was born, Joseph and Eliza had a son Moses, so either they were both deeply religious or they had a great sense of humour, don't know anymore about either of them, such as parents or anything, but it's nice to know that our ancestors probably grew up together, small world eh!

Take Care.

Hi Jolou
Just thought I'd add a bit more to your tree, one of my Gt Aunts married Peter Livermore, 3 months on the 1861 census. Mary Ann Hockley b. abt 1861 in Braintree.
Hope this is of some help.

Hi jolou25

What a coincidence as my great, great, great gran was Elizabeth Jane Livermore born in Felstead in 1843/1844 and married George Clift in 1868. She was the daughter of Samuel Livermore and Sarah. Samuel was born in around 1810 and died in 1882. His father I believe may have been Edward Livermore as there was one living with Samuel's family in 1841. In 1881, Samuel was in the Dunmow Workhouse.

Unfortunately the 1851 census for Felstead is missing as it says on Ancestry.com which villages around the country are missing.
