Title: BASSETT CENSUS or Any! Help please completed
Post by: keera on Saturday 12 November 05 22:28 GMT (UK)
Dear Listers, I would appreciate help with a family I know little of. Robert  Charles Bassett's DC said he was born in 1825 to John Bassett (Blacksmith) and Ann Elizabeth (formerly Wilcock) The DC said he was born in Tottingham Crt Rd London. I think his parents may have married at St Georges Square Hanover in 1808.Robert was in NSW Australia approx 1850.I have his life in Australia but little before then!  I would appreciate any help with this family.

I'm planning a daytrip to the London Metropolitan Archives either 7th or 14th April.

Would you like me to check out the 1808 marriage and c1825 baptism?

Hi Keera

So far I've found the marriage

From St Georges Hanover Square marriage register

Page titled Marriages in October 1808

John Bassett and Eth Mt C? Willcock both of this parish (no status) can't read what's after her 2nd initial, looks like 'en'
were married in this church by Banns
this second day of October in the year 1808
by me J Greville AM Curate
This marriage was solumnized between us
John Bassett (signed his name)
Elizth Mt Ct Willcock (signed her name)
in the presence of
Robert Bassett X his mark
Maria Willcock

Hope this helps. The name Ann wasn't mentioned at all, Mt could be Margaret and Ct Charlotte or Catherine?

Just got the baptism to check out now.

Dear Dawn, Thank you so much for this information and taking the time to do it. Elizabeth Margaret Charlotte is mentioned on the baptisms to be found in the IGI. I am excited that Robert Bassett and Maria Wilcock might be parents of both or maybe siblings. I am very grateful.
Thanks
Keera
