Ig Sandie has managed to find your george Howell then this certainly matches the information she gave on the 1871 census. was the reason I asked if he was married in 1881 and to whom. If he married a jane then this is your man

I Had a look at Wickham Market in 61 and only c two households of Howells headed by George and Elizabeth and William and Ann. No George... no John and Sarah.... Thes discs r not indexed Joanne so to look at Ipswich without knowing at least the parish would take me all week!.... should I come up with anything when I am going through Ipswich for other things in the future (Ive added Howell to my list)I will get back to u unless u can b more specific on where in Ipswich u would like me to look? Sorry

Hi
Thankyou so much to everyone who has helped, I don't have alot of information I do know that George Henry Howell was in Australia in 1878 as this was the year that he married, however I cannot find him on any shipping lists, also I have not been able to locate a death for him in Australia, which makes the search harder. I do know that he was an Engineer as was his father John Howell.
This is all the info that I have.

Hi Sandie
I think you may have the right family on the 1851 census that you checked. Sarah aged 34 in Cheshire wife of John, from searching further if I have the right one sarah died in 1857 in Ipswich.
I did find on the 1881 census a John born Salford Lancs married to a Urania, not sure of her maiden name or when they may have married. but it does state that he was an Engine driver which is correct for my John Howell.
Is there any way that I could find out Sarah's maiden name.
Thanks
Jo

Hi Kris
Thankyou Thankyou so much you are right this has definately made my day. It narrows down the dates of him coming out to Australia, and seen as I cannot find a death for him here who knows maybe he went to good ole England.
Thankyou again so very very much
Happy happy

Yes Jo I was pleased myself I went to the disc for St Mary Stoke and there was only a couple of pages then it changed to St Peter for bout 30 page I nearly skipped it and headed straight for where St Mary would resume but thought I may as well keep my eye out and only a couple of pages in there they were same street even. I just couldnt beleive it ..the quickest ever ive done a disc lookup I think. I did have the name on my list and have kept my eyes open as I have been looking through parts of Ipswich. I did all of St Margaret yesterday looking for a couple of things in fact....then this clue in 71 and I put my finger on him instantly...If only they could all b so easy. I have been back to 71 looking for George since it appears he is only about 18 but had no luck so I guess either he sailed at an early age or mayb he has slipped over the border to Norfolk to work.
Glad u r happy. Always makes me happy when I finally find something I know someone has been after 4 ages
Good Luck with it
Kris
