Title: COMPLETED: 1861/1851 census HAWKINS, Paulerspury
Post by: hlbradd on Thursday 10 November 05 11:27 GMT (UK)
Hi all

I am looking for a REUBEN HAWKINS and (hopefully) his family in the Paulerspury area.

Reuben was born c1831, in Northampton; his son Harry (born c1864) gives his birthplace as Pauler Perry ::) (I think I used to go to school with her!) and I am hoping the family were in the area for a few years previous to this.  Reuben's wife Jane was born c1824 - and her place of birth was Moreton Pinkney, not far from Paulerspury.  Harry also had an older sister, Sarah A, born around 1856.

I am afraid I do not have any address :( because Harry and his family were in London from 1871 onwards.

Many thanks

Helen

1841 Church End, Paulerspury
Thomas Hawkins 50 Agricultural Labourer
Elizabeth 50, Ann 25, Mary 20, Elizabeth 15, Thomas 15, Reuben 10.

Also on the 1851 Census the names of the farmer that Reuben is living with looks to me like Attwood.

Hope it helps
Pam

Hi Trish and Pam

Many thanks for the information - I believe Pury End must be a hamlet, looks much smaller on my map than Paulerspury !  Will have to google and see if I can find any mention of a farm there.  I suppose it was a bit much to hope he was still at home at the age of 20!

I believe his wife may be Jane Brocklifs (according to freebmd) - not sure whether it should read Brockliss or not.   The children's ages would tie up with a possible marriage, December quarter 1854, although the marriage was in the Daventry district.

Just about to post and spotted your second message Pam - thank you for the 1841 also.   Now going to google for maps of Paulerspury.

Once again, thank you both very much for your help.

Could well be - although the A Rood was quite an inventive  option ;D

Hi all

Hi Trish/Pam/Sandy

Pam - didn't have much joy hunting down 'Rood' - if it was Attwood that's probably why ::)

Trisha - I've found lots of 'inventive' entries - and there's probably some I still haven't twigged :-\

Oh Sandy, I do hope so :D

I haven't got a Marmaduke yet!  Perhaps Reuben was hired to work on the Brockliss farm - more investigation needed methinks.....wonder if that would be why they married in Daventry - and not the local parish church? ;)

Must say this line is bringing in some more unusual names, as opposed to all my Williams, Thomas, Charles and Josephs.

Thank you all for your help

Helen
 :) :) :)

Hi Helen

I have the 1841 Oxfordshire Census and can see Richard on it.

Obviously he does not seem to come into your lineage.

Do you want the details.

Cheers Sandy

As a child growing up in the Hamlet, there were several farms.  Some guessing by the buildings had been there a long time.

The largest was just off Carey's Road on the west. A small farm ( Home Farm ? ) in the centre of the bottom triangle, this might be more modern, I am not sure.  The top of the Hamlet ( North ) was the big house of the hamlet, this too had farm out buildings and there I think was something at Botany Bay which was again on the North side of the hamlet.

Paulerspury nearby has some also, one of the larger is just South of Paulerspury and I think  might be called Park Lane Farm.  If any ring a bell let me know and I can check the names next time I am up there.
