Hi there,

I too am interested in the PAYNE family.  My great g/m was Eliza PAYNE and she was born in Bridgewater, Somersetshire in 1847.  She appears to have married and became Eliza BECK, but whether this was prior to her emigration to New Zealand or not, I don't know.  In any case, she was widowed apparently and married William THOMPSON in Wellington, NZ in 1874.  They had four children: William (DOB?) Agnes Eliza (1879) my g/f William Payne Thompson (1881) and Samuel George Payne (1883) - the last three born in Dunedin.  Eliza may have had children from her first marriage, I have no information.  The family emigrated to the Blue Mountains outside Sydney, Australia in the 1890's.

Any ideas or links?  Hopefully, Leith

Hello Leith
apologies for the delay (rootschat had a tummy ache)
At present I cannot see a link.  My Eliza PAYNE appears to have come from Midsomer Norton and married a Charles JONES possibly in Bath or Midsomer.  They came to Australia in 1859.

Bright Blessings

Hello

My gt grandmother was born Alice May FLOWER, born in Clutton, Somerset in 1901.  She married Alfred BRIMBLE and they had four children.  I believe Alice's parents were John and Elizabeth but this is yet to be proven until I recieve her birth cert, which I sent for a few days ago.  Is there any link.

Hello AP ...

sorry ... way after my lot ... my UK links ended when Charles Jones and Elza Payne came to Australia in 1859.

Good luck with your research though :)

I too am interested in the FLOWER family name in Somerset.

I believe my FLOWER family originated in Gillingham, Dorset.  But they were certainly in Somerset from the mid to late 19th Century...notably Somerton, High Ham, Somerton, Long Load right up to my grandparents in Clevedon.

Hi Somerset lass,

I found these two on 1841 census, are they any good?  They might have been married more than once!  Have you looked on the other search engines for FH?

Are you all aware of the surname interests table?  On a quick check I could not see any of the people on this thread having entered their surnames.

The link is via "Your surname interests" which is found at the foot of every page.  There are a large number of people searching for some of the names that you have mentioned who can be contacted by clicking on their username.

Hi David,

I have tried that and all I got was an odd page with adverts for things that would not let you in!

I will have a look when I have time, I have checked the pages before and found nothing of mine!

Thanks for reminding me though!

Thanks Rabbit, not sure what you may have been telling me but have been through the 41 census and picked out the likely looking ones. trouble is we can't say for sure without some proof of who John's parents were. Have been to the RO plenty of times without success although there is another John Flower but not the one we want typically! Think I've searched every site going :)
