HI,
I AM LOOKING FOR HORWELL`S IN YORKSHIRE.
MY PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER WAS EDITH MAVIS HORWELL FROM ACOMB,YORK.
SHE HAD A SISTER ELSIE WHO EMIGRATED TO CANADA BEFORE WW2.
SHE HAD A RELATIVE GEORGE HORWELL WHO WAS AN HIGH RANKING OFFICER AT SCOTLAND YARD IN THE 1950`s
I HAVE NO CONTACT WITH THIS HALF OF THE FAMILY SO IT MAKES RESEARCH DIFFICULT.
EDITH`S FATHER WAS ALSO A GEORGE HORWELL
MANY THANKS

Julles,
Have you made any progress with Edith yet?
There is a birth in 1902 but I think I see her marriage in 1935 so wonder if 1902 is too early for her birth. Do you have an indication of her birth year at all (age from marriage certificate?).
A George HORWELL married Sarah Jane DARBYSHIRE in Tadcaster in 1892 which could fit for parents if her a birth year was 1902.
Do you have anything else to go on?

Welcome to rootschat, Sarah.
I am not related to any Horwell, but if someone is, they cannot reply directly to you yet as you have only posted once.
Have you looked in Surname Interests, under Your Tools, below, to see if anyone on here is actively researching Horwells from your area (wherever that is).
Is there anything specific that you would like any help with?
Added: Just looked for a George Horwell at Scotland Yard in the 1950's, can see a John Horwell there in 1930's, depends how high ranking he was, maybe.

Hello Sarah,
I don't know if you'll see this as I think you have only posted once.
My grandfather was John James (Jack) Horwell, son of Charles and Ellen Horwell. I think Jack had an older brother, Tom, and Charles also had a brother, Thomas. Charles' father was William and married to Elizabeth.
