hello everyone
i have just discovered after 10 years that i have made a mistake with a link to my davis family tree
i had william davis 1880 born in oldham, lancashire.
i have just discovered he was born in 1880 in openshaw in lancashire and his father samuel davis 1853 was born in grimescote in northampton and his father william 1823 was born in fosters booth northampton. i have found them on the census of 1851-1891, but have not been able to find william davis born 1823 baptism or his marriage to a elizabeth !!! there first child is john born 1843 i think.
the areas were they resided are : fosters booth, grimscote, eastcote, astcote, kislingbury.
there occupation varied from boot cleaners/polishers/maker
to agricultural labourer.
if any one could find any further information on this family, ie: baptism etc as i have not been able to find any parish records for that area, yet on the 1851 census there seems to be other davis families, which could well be william davis 1823 brothers or parents.
any help would be much appreciated
kindest regards
michael

In 1851 the registration area where they lived is Towcester.
In 1842 there is a reference to a William Davis marrying an Elizabeth registered in Towcester. Perhap this is him? Have you seen this? There is, however, a birth registered for a John Davis ending Sept 1842 in Towester. Trouble is - it is such a common name.

Perhaps the best option would be to send for one of the children's birth certs which will record Elizabeth's surname
Here is another one which must be theirs, hopefully

Hi again
It does look as though Joseph widower may be the father of your William as he and Elizabeth baptised a son William who dies although his age is slightly out.

Hi walkerlad
I thought I was following the correct line as they were the only families in the village but by re-reading it I could have been mistaken and I certainly would not direct someone on the wrong lineage intentionally.
All I can say for certain is that the Vicar made entries after the events and therefore could have noted the wife's name wrongly or I am incorrect.
So you may not accept the Joseph and Elizabeth baptism for the 2 Williams but I have verified everything else and it is correct.
Cheers Sandy
-
hello sandy
i never thought for a minute you would send me down the wrong line, but i have found other baptism of children to joseph davis and elizabeth 1827-1837 and i was wondering if the marriages of joseph davis to harriett harris 1819 is the same couple as joseph and elizabeth.
regards
michael :-*
-
Hi walkerlad
I did take the details of Joseph's 2 marriages and they are the wife's previously stated only thing I can do (when able) is to re-check the Parish Records again as I did not see any Joseph and Harriet baptising any children.
Cheers Sandy
-
HI walkerlad
Your post went on just before mine.
Believe me I can mistakes I am not perfect. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
I will give you the next entries to William's Baptism and you will see what I mean.
It was not unusual for the vicar to write up the reigster after the event and sometimes if you cross-reference Bishop's Transcripts they will be different.
Pg 14 No 109 Novr 14th 1824
Sarah to Thomas and Elizabeth Judkins Cold Higham Labourer
Pg 14 No 110 Novr 28th 1824
Emma to John and Ann Clark Cold Higham Labourer
In the left hand column between 108-110 he has writed copied.
Anyway will have to sleep on it as not able to correct if wrong today.
Cheers Sandy
