The Scottish 1861 census put on line last week has finally given me a clue to my ggxgrandather's birthplace. The '41 and '51 just say Ireland, but 1861 gives Monaghan, Ireland. Peter McCormick was born around 1792 and came to Scotland some time before 1822 when he married in Ayrshire. His death certificate names his father as Peter McCormick also, no mother named but he named his eldest daughter Mary. Other children's first names are Daniel, Janet, Isabella, Margaret, Elizabeth, James, Peter, Thomas, John. Can anyone connect with this.

I am also hunting McCormick family from Monaghan about 1790. I have a Joseph McCormick married a Bella Hamilton sometime before 1815. They had a son William,my grear grandfather who may have been born in Fermanagh. If you can see a connection with your Peter please let me know,

Sorry Alistair,
I have no information on the family in Ireland at all - I just know that Peter was born in Monaghan around 1792 and that his father's name was probably Peter as well. Will keep you in mind though.

Hello,
I am also seeking McCormicks from Monaghan, I have a Joseph McCormick married to Bella Hamilton before 1815 who had son William b.c1815, my great grandfather. William married in Fermanagh , I am therefore concerned that it is possible that Monaghan and Moynaghan( in Fermanagh) became confused,

Hei Alistair,
It is quite possible Monaghan was mistaken for Moynaghan in Fermanagh. There were families by the name of McCormick and Hamilton living in the same parish in the county (I do not know whether or not they lived in Moynaghan) during the time of Griffiths Valuation of Ireland 1848-64.

Thank you Chris,
My McCormicks went to Paisley in Scotland between 1847 and 1850 and going back beyond that is proving difficult, particularly as my great grandmother and family appeared in the Irvinestown poorhouse in 1846-47 and her residence was recorded as Boyaghan. I now havwe Monaghan, Moynaghan and Boyaghan to research, genealogy is certainly time consuming but it is a lot better than watching Australian TV.

Hi
First time on this site so please be patient.
My great grandfather was Peter McCormick born about 1870 originally from Co Monaghan moved to Glasgow (Partick) where he met my Gt/Grandmother Mary Ann Fallon Mcfadden or McFadgen they had several children I believe and my Grandfather was born in 1893 and raised in Newton St Partick.
He subsequently married Mary Ellen Martin, on 16 July 1915. The interesting part is that Mary Martins mothers maiden name was Bridget McMahon who also came from Co Monaghan although they didn't know each other.and the post before this is looking for McMahon
Don't know what happened to the Martin side but my Gt/GFather & Mother are buried in St Kentigerns cemetry.Glasgow
This is the first time I have tried to trace my mothers side of the family so it is a bit hit and miss!! The McCormicks Moved to Hayes Middlesex in the 1930s and for several years ran William McAlpine sites around the country

Thanks for the info, unfortunately there are no older members of the Scottish side of the family left so it's a bit hit and miss. As a complete beginner I am finding it all rather daunting and welcome any help given
Many Thanks

Another strange co-incidence - my great great Grandfather was Peter McCormick b. abt. 1792 in Monaghan and he married Margaret McFadden (or McFadzean) in Coylton, Ayrshire in 1822.
-
I am also looking for information on McCormicks from monaghan, my great great gran was Eliza(beth) McCormick born circa 1857, her parents were Michael McCormick and Jane Daly. Other children that i know of were James, mary, Catherine and susan, not necessarily in that order.
My McCormicks came to Glasgow between 1865-1875.

I'm afraid I'm no further forward than when I first posted. Plenty of information once he arrived in Scotland, but nothing on parentage except father's name also Peter, mother possibly Mary.

hi, thanks to the scotlandspeople site adding in the RC records I have info on my DANIEL MCCORMICK born 1784ish to DANIEL MCCORMICK and MARY MCCABE according to death cert in 1862, married to FANNY or FRANCES MCSWENIE or SWEENEY in 1823 in Maybole, Ayrshire.
The marriage entry stated that Daniel came from County Monnichan (Monagahn?) but now residing in Maybole.
Daniel and Frances had the following children born Maybole and baptised in St. Margaret's Catholic Parish, Ayr:
Elizabeth 1824-??, Mary 1826-??, John 1828-??, Thomas 1830-1833
and Thomas 1833-1895 born Neilston, baptised St. Mirrens Catholic Parish, Paisley (my 2xgrandfather).
hoping to find siblings of DANIEL MCCORMICK ca 1784-1862 and what happened to his children.

Births to Daniel and Frances - from my database:
Elizabeth 23 April 1824; John 7 April 1828; Thomas 28 October 1830. (nothing on Mary).
Have also sent you PM with more details.

Hi Grendlsmother
I am doing research for a friend. Her great grandmother was Susan Mccormick, sister of your Eliza. Susan's family disappears from Scottish records after 1891. Do you know what happened to them?
Thanks
Julie

Hi Julie
You seem to have replied to the wrong person. I have no Susans in my tree. It is Debbi-roo who has Elizabeth/Susan.
