I'm looking for a William Stratton (born 1813 in Hayle, Cornwall) who may have appeared in the 1851 Census along with his wife Avis (born:1813 in St. Erth, Cornwall).
Any information on William Stratton and his family household would be appreciated. :)

Hi Peter,
Can you tell us any more on these people. Given this information I am having no luck at all. I cannot see William in 1841,51 or 61 census. There is an Avis Davies/Davis born in St Erth. 1841 she is married to William a Whitesmith, 1851 She is a widow (Shopkeeper) and has a daughter Eliza Emily b 1842 in St Erth. By 1861 she is still in St Erth now the wife of William Lock. I cannot see any other likely Avis......Kris ???

Hi Kris,
The William & Avis Stratton that I’m researching appeared during the 1881 Census in Swansea Wales in the following household:
William STRATTON Head M Male 68 Hayle, Cornwall, England Boiler Maker
Avis STRATTON Wife M Female 68 St Erth, Cornwall, England Home
James THOMAS Son In Law M Male 28 Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales Moulder (Iron)
Caroline THOMAS Daur M Female 28 Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales Home
Wm. George THOMAS Grand Son Male 4 Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales Scholar
Florence Priscilla THOMAS Grand Daur Female 1 Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales Home
Dwelling 28 Earl Street
Census Place St John Near Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales
There are also several other Stratton households who lived in St John Near Swansea but also originated from Hayle Cornwall.
Thomas STRATTON Head M Male 34 Hayle, Cornwall, England Furnaceman Steel Works
Annie Elizabeth STRATTON Wife M Female 34 London, Middlesex, England
William George STRATTON Son Male 12 Swansea Scholar
Avis Mary STRATTON Daur Female 10 Swansea Scholar
Charlotte Ann STRATTON Daur Female 8 Swansea Scholar
Harriet STRATTON Daur Female 6 Swansea Home
Thomas STRATTON Son Male 3 Swansea Home
Annie Elizabeth STRATTON Daur Female 5 m Swansea
Dwelling 28 Vernon St
Census Place St John Near Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales
Thomas STRATTON Boarder (Head) M Male 64 Hayle, Cornwall, England B Smith
Mary STRATTON Wife M Female 45 Hayle, Cornwall, England
Dwelling 6 Hafod St
Census Place St John Near Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales
I did a lookup request for William & Avis Stratton in the Swansea area for 1861 but no one was able to find any reference to them. I was hoping that something shows up in the 1841/51/61 Censuses that might tie all these households together in Cornwall.

Hi
IGI says married St John, Swansea, about 1840
(Don't know if that is useful)

It does appear that William & Avis Stratton (Strathen) already lived in Swansea during the 1851 Census. Also, William & Avis may have been married circa 1940 in St John, Swansea according to the IGI.
If it's not too much to ask, could someone check if a Thomas Stratton (Strathen) blacksmith ,born 1817, lived near Hayle Cornwall in either the 1851 or 1861 Census. I would be interested to know if he had a son named Thomas who may have been born in Hayle circa 1847.

Hi Kris,
Thanks for taking the time to track down the Strattons from Hayle. I've been racking my brain for the past 4 years trying to figure out how the Strattons suddenly appeared in Swansea. It's now quite apparent that they all went by Trathen/Trathem/Tratham when they lived in Hayle but eventually changed over to Stratton after they moved to from England to Wales.
I've already have been able find new links to various relatives based on the information you provided. Once again, my hat goes off to you! ;D

You are very Welcome Peter, always enjoy a good challenge. I had tried everything I could think of and basically decided they were not anywhere in England or Wales. Then yesterday, a bit bored, I thought I would try again, still no go so off to Wales 71 and armed with with a few more names and ages from the 71 and was pleased to find the elusive devils. It suddenly twigged when I kept finding people of right name in Phillack that Hayle listed as Phillack for certain things. At least this name change is a good lead for you now with all being Tratham or like in 51. Perhaps you can now progress....Glad to have helped.....Best wishes with it.....Kris :D
