We were wondering if some kind person living in the St. Ninians area would consider visiting the churchyard and taking a photograph of a tombstone for us. The people we're interested in are Alexander Stewart and Janet Drummond.
Janet died in 1912, and Alexander in 1920. They are buried in the old churchyard of St. Ninians in Lair number 547.
A digital photo would be fine, or we would be glad to reimburse for any film and postal costs.
Thanks from the Sunshine State!

Hi magoogles,
Welcome to Rootschat!
Just before you go - St. Ninian's Churchyard is locked - you'll have to go into Viewforth (to the Cemetery Records Office) to get the keys.

Hiya,Yes it is locked but I can get the key from Lynn at the Cemetery Records Office.Big restoration project going on to the Tower.Scaffolding everywhere but it is a worthy cause;Great history surrounding the place...apparently the Jacobites used it to store explosives during the uprising of the 1700's...and,er,blew it up!!It's been patched up since then but, like I said,it's being worked on again. The area used to be packed with tiny one storey houses and winding cobbled street until at least the 1950's....according to my good friend Joan who attended school at St Modans RC not far from there.
Anyway,I'll head down to St.Ninians (or St.Ringans as it was known in the distant past) and seek out your relatives for you...Any excuse to trawl around a super wee churchyard...ancient headstones and bats in the belfry! You would love it!
Speak to you soon,Aw Ra Best,J

Hi I've just read the posts re burials in St Ninian's and I'd love a couple of digital photos of the cemetery if its old and not too much trouble. I doubt there would be any headstones for my husband's ancestors there- they go back a long way at St Ninian's ie pre 1800 but we do have some photos of the area including Touch House. They were Cuthell family and lived at Touch Stirling with christenings at St Ninian's.
