I would be very grateful if any kind person could help me trace details of Brailsford family who resided at 66 Bostock St , Liverpool in 1881 Census.
Joseph Brailsford (my grandfather) was 8 year old then, and later married Lily Fitzgerald and had about 8 children. I only knew the 3 girls that survived Agnes, Theresa (my mother) and Josephine. That is the only family history I know so any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Paul,
Welcome to rootschat :D
I can see your grandfather in 1901 with wife Lily, but no children (yet?).
Going back from 1881 to 1871, this is the most likely family I can see:
RG10/3759 31 59
Liverpool St Titus, Lancashire
(40?) Mile End
Samuel Brailford, head, 26 or 36, Labourer, b. Ireland
Bridget, wife, 24, b. Ireland
Thomas, son, 2, b. Lancashire Liverpool
Samuel, son, 5ms, b. Liverpool
Thomas Devaney (?), boarder, unm, 21, Labourer, b. Liverpool
I'm having a look on later census returns to see if I can find them.

On the 1881 census I think Samuel was down as born Derbyshire ???
Couldn't find Joseph in 1891 but found a Samuel Brailsford living in Marsden Lancs, not married to Bridget though :'(
-
Yes, I know he says Derbyshire in 1881 and his age is out. Couldn't find him in earlier census returns with the info provided in 1881 so I was trying to find him later to check what he says later. Unfortunately, I can't see any of the children in 1891 or 1901 except for Joseph in 1901.
FreeBMD has a death for a Bridget Brailsford age 43 in Dec 1889, West Derby Registration District so Samuel could be either a widower or remarried by 1891.

Have found the son Thomas in 1891 married and living with in laws the Hulse family at RG12/2944/103/20. could you double check that one for me Tanja please?
The one I found for a Samuel Brailsford born Derbyshire was at RG12/3376/108/14. :)

8) Brill! 1891 Thomas certainly looks like the one!
I can see the Derbyshire Samuel in 1891. He does seem to match. Went back to check 1881 - couldn't see a 1 year old Ethel Brailsford born Oxford around. Now we have to find a marriage for Samuel between 1889 and 1891 to an Alice with a daughter Ethel :P

??? ;D ;D ;D

I'm still intrigued by the fact that FreeBMD has a death for a Samuel Brailsford age 66 in June 1902 in Liverpool. Whatever I try, I can't find this man in 1901 or 1891 :(
-
The Samuel in Nelson's wife was born Liverpool, so maybe they went back there ::)
-
I'm afraid the Samuel found in 1891 was already there and married to Alice in 1881, and had a niece Ethel Jones born Oxford 1880. Think this is him (though he is already 38 in 1881!) RG11/4298 4 2

Dear Tati & Nessie,
Thank you both very much for your instant help and information, as far as I know that 1871 Census seems to tie in with my 1881 info, it just may be an error about his age and birthplace, I am quite sure it is them.
Thanks again
Paul Ward.

Paul,
There is a researcher of Christopher THOMAS BRAILSFORD, who is your Joseph BRAILSFORD's older brother, on the rootsweb BRAILSFORD Mailing List. You might like to join to get in touch with her.
