Hi,
Can anyone please advise me?
According to his death certificate, my ggg grandfather John Womersley died of `old age` on 23 May 1841 aged `61` at East Moor, Wakefield.
His death was registered in Stanley Wakefield and the informant was a Benjamin Bollands of whom I have no knowledge.
From his death certificate I now know John was born around 1780 but I can not find any actual record of his birth. From IGI Records I have established he married Mary Binns on 1st April 1798 at All Saints, Wakefield.
Can anyone advise me where John may be buried so that I may attempt to discover more details about him and his family from his burial records. Any other suggestions would also be appreciated.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Regards,
Jukey :)

Hi Jukey - these three churches are the closest I believe
St Swithuns, Eastmoor, Wakefield
St Peter, Stanley, Wakefield
St Andrew, Peterson Road, Wakefield (close to Eastmoor)

Hello Shelly,
At last a response for which I am very grateful.
Thank you for your time, I will now see if I can get any further with my detective work.
Kind Regards,
Jukey :)

Yes you were given the correct churches but these would not have been around when your John died, escept Stanley.
The churches that were in the town and surrounding areas were -
All Saints with its burial ground a stones throw from Eastmoor.
St John's beyond All Saints and I don't think an option
or
St Jame's near the park.
or Stanley St Peter as you already know, but this is further away than any of the others
I personally would start with the All Saints. The registers will be with the archives or on film at the library, but if you are not local try your nearest LDS and they will surely get the films/ fiche for you
Happy hunting

Hi Carol,
Hopefully another step nearer for me with your much appreciated response to my request. It does help to receive information from someone like yourself who seems to know something of the area I am currently researching.
I will follow your suggestions and who knows I might be lucky this time. I seem to have spent so much time on this particular search.
Thanks again,
Jukey

One of my lot died in the Pauper Lunatic Asylum, just up the road and she was laid to rest in the All Saints Burial Ground which was nestled between The Springs, Vicarage Street and Zetland St, Wakefield. A search on www.multimap.co.uk for any of these streets will show you the area.
The graveyard was dismantled, for want of a better word, in the early middle 1900's - my dad can remember then doing it and making way for 'new' shops on the Springs. The original vicarage is still there. It used to be the conservative club, but that went belly up in the 1990's and is now divided into seperate shops,
The building was in the news not long ago as they found old tunnels etc.
Hope this little background info helps

Thank you again Carol. It is very interesting. I suppose there is a chance that my ancestor could also have been buried in that same burial ground. I just hope I get lucky with the records.
The multimap site will certainly be worth a look at.
Best wishes

There is an 1823 map of Wakefield on my website at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~framland/framland/Wake1823.jpg
It shows the All Saints Burial Ground and the Corpse Road which was used to carry some of the deceased to the burial ground.
Cheers
