;D ;D
I see this County as Worcester, but I can't read the town - any ideas please ??
??? ???
-
looks like hatfield to me hope it helps
-
;D ;D
I too thought it began with an 'H' Pat - something resembling Happerty
However, when you see the 'W' in West Bromwich on the line below. they both look similar ??? ???

This is Genuki's list of towns and parishes in Worcester.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/WOR/townsandparishes.htm
The possibilities could be a "soundex" of Abberley? Happerly
or Haggely for Hagley?
Just ideas, don't know the area.

I too looked at Genuki, but nothing 'jumped out'.
I'm hoping somebody from Worcester can throw some light !!

Hi
If you look up the entry on Ancestry.co.uk, for that census year, what does the printed page interpret it as.
There is a Martley but the 3rd and 4th letters appear to drop below the line as well as above which would lead me to suspect ff or ss if written by someone with a flowing script.
Also Worcestershire used to have some detached areas which are now parts of other counties the Tipton/Dudley for one

Hi Stinton,
Already checked the printed page which shows Sapperton, Worcestershire, but the only Sapperton I could find is in Gloucestershire
:( :(
-
How about Stapford followed by a big comma?
What year is it?
Are there any other clues from other years?

1851 Census
HO.107//2028
Rowley Regis
Staffs
Susannah BARNS/Wife/34/Whatever/Worcs
On the 1861 Census she gives her birthplace as 'Minnie Wood, Shropshire', and I can't find that either.

Hi This is weird, I tried a search for the name on the UK census and got the following for 1851
ancestry.co.uk (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1851&so=2&gsfn=susannah&gsln=barns&sx=&gsco=3251%2cEngland&gspl=1%2cAll+Counties&year=1851&yearend=1901&rank=0&prox=1&db=&ti=5538&ti.si=0&gss=angs-g)
and this for 1861
ancestry.co.uk (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1861&so=2&gsfn=susannah&gsln=barns&sx=&gsco=3251%2cEngland&gspl=1%2cAll+Counties&year=1851&yearend=1901&rank=0&prox=1&db=&ti=5538&ti.si=0&gss=angs-g)
There doesn't seem to be either of those 2 entries coming up.

there is a braney wood in shropshire near to cleobury mortimer from 1861 the only place i can think of is the minith wood which is near eastham bridge on the tenbury road, i think tenbury might have been near to the borders with shropshire

There is another entry on the 1851 page for a Hannah.
The first letter H is exactly the same script as the first letter in the place name.
There is a Hatfield between Bromyard and Tenbury Wells which is very close to the Hereford/Worcs border and is also near the Shrops border.
These borders may well have been changed considerably over the last 150 yrs.
Incidently the age on the '51 census is 39 and there is only 1 n in Susanah on that entry as well.
That explains why I hadn't found her doing an exact search.

Hi There,
Have been through Worcestershire contiguous parishes 5 times trying to make sense of this but can find nothing that even looks like a match - I was born & brought up in Worcester as well - All I can say is GOOD LUCK
All the very best
A MYSTIFIED
Phil
Weston-super-Mare
-
another guess could be stanford which is only a couple of miles from minith wood
-
Sorry to butt in at this late stage but could not this place be an enumerator's hearing/spelling of Habberley, which is a small outlying district of Kidderminster in Worcestershire.
Also there is Abberley near Great Witley
Regards
Robert

HELLO THERE, IT MIGHT BE SPETCHLEY WHICH IS JUST OUTSIDE WORCESTER WHICH IS ON THE A422OR THE A4538 .SIGNALMAN

Have you checked details of the ennumeration district? This should give a description of the route the census ennumertor took. If the exact name on the return isn't clear, at least you should get an idea of some of the surrounding streets, etc.

I would go for Abberley and Menith Wood.

I didnt see a reply to what was the enumerators route.
I may have missed something, but can you find where he came from. However, I have found that the route often deviates from the obvious, with odd roads being visited out of order.
