Title: PORTSMOUTH BYLES-BILES
Post by: showers on Tuesday 25 October 05 21:26 BST (UK)
Am looking for descendants of WILLIAM  BYLES/BILES who  married  ELLEN LAMPEN GRIFFITHS in Portsmouth. William was a Gunner  in the ROYAL MARINE ARTILLERY, Portsmouth  1800's.  1901 census shows ELLEN  to be a widow and living with her daughter-in-law  Emily ( 23 FRATTAN  GROVE, FRATTAN) who was married to Williams son FRED  BYLES/BILES. who was a STOKER in the Navy and had a son FRED WILLIAM/WILLIAM FRED.  William was discharged from Navy because of Arthritis. Have discovered from his Naval Records that he  had  3 Good Conduct Badges and the CHINA  MEDAL with CLASP for CANTON.  My mother  remembered attending one of their  funerals as a young girl which had to be after 1910.  William originated from Powerstock in Dorset.  Cannot find either  of their Death dates or where they were buried.  Can any kind Rootschatter help me here.    SHOWERS

Is there anyone who has a William Henry George Marshall and his wife Jessie in their ancestry.?  Last known address in 1920 was 17 Meadow St, Landport, Portsmouth. Hants. They had a William Byles living with them and Jessie was the notifier of his death at age 89. .  Need to know if  both Williams were service mates (Royal Marine Artillery) and how long William Byles  had lived with them. Would be glad of any info. Thanks.  Showers
