Title: Marriage - St Pancras, look up please
Post by: celticgirl on Tuesday 25 October 05 17:46 BST (UK)
I am looking for a marriage between Paul  Loewe and Jane Florence Andrews.   I'm basing my info from their son's birth certificate which says that he was registered on 17 June 1861 and lived at 6 Brecknock Terrace, Camden New Town, reg dist St Pancras, sub dist of Kentish Town, County of Middlesex.

Therefore, I'm estimating that the marriage would have taken place around 1861 or just before.

Any help, even if its to tell me I've put this request in the wrong section, would be most welcomed!

Thanks.

Celticgirl,

The only marriage for a Jane Florence Andrews I can find was one in 1901 in West Ham ref Sep 1901 4a/508

The only ref for a Paul Loewe was in 1909 in Lewsiham
ref Sep 1909 1d/2262

Are you sure this couple actually married?

Claudia

Hi, yes, Im sure they married because on their son's birth cert, she (his mother Jane Florence) is listed as Loewe formerly Andrews.

The other dates you mention, I have,  - one is the marriage of their son, 1909.

Many thanks for looking up - much appreciated.

Interestingly, I am unable to find this family on any of the census returns!

Celticgirl,
How about they married outside of England/Wales - ie Scotland, Ireland, Europe.
The name Loewe - is it German - could the marriage have taken place abroad.
Also, just because the birth certificate says the parents were married, does not always mean they were!
I think you need to look at other possibilities, especially when you cannot find then on any census.
The address they give on their son's birth certificate in 1861 - have you tried to find that address in 1861 census as, even if they are not there, it may give some clues.
Hope you find them!
Claudia

Thanks very much for all that info  John!  I am really confused now!

Their son, Paul Herbert Loewe b. 1861, married Alice Jane Hood in 1881 at Charlton Church, Kent, Woolwich.  Their children were as follows:
Gertrude A. Loewe
Pauline Emily  "
Paul Herbert   "
Gordon  H. Loewe
Florence Naomi "
Edith Kate         "
Ernest Spencer Loewe
Constance Irene Loewe
Violet Eileen Loewe.

This family are all as listed on the 1901 census, but Ive been unable to find them on any other census.  However, on the 1891 census the exact same family are listed but all having the surname Crease!  How so!

If one of them remarried, how come the certificates are all with the surname Loewe, as is the 1901 census.  Its just somewhere in the middle, the surname Crease appears.  Have you any advice on why this should happen.

Many thanks for your time and patience!

Steph

Hello Steph,

I'm just as confused as you are! I thought it was going well - Flo marries Peter/Paul, has a son Paul Herbert, Peter/Paul dies and Flo remarries to Edmund. The children then take his name CREESE on the 1871 census. But then the marriage appears in 1877 to Mary Ann F ANDREWS. This completely threw me, because his wife is still called Florence Jane in later censuses. I wonder if she is 'Mary Ann Florence Jane'. And did she ever marry Peter/Paul?

Found this couple in 1881  :)

1881 Census
40 Wellington Ter, Greenwich, London, England
Paul H. Creese abt 1858  London, London, Middlesex, England Lodger (Head), Annuitant
Alice Creese abt 1859  London, London, Middlesex, England Wife

Best regards,
John

If I don't hear from you in a while I'll assume you're no longer looking or have found the information in the meantime and move it to 'Completed'.
